While this game is very hard to get into initially, those who stick with it will be rewarded handsomely. Some people like it for the old-school punishing difficulty, but frankly I find the die-once-and-go-back-to-the-start-of-the-level structure kind of cheap. What I do like is the methodical combat the game has. Probably the best combat I've ever seen in an action-rpg. Very notable for the isolated, oppressive atmosphere too.
