Shantae and the Pirate's Curse revamped this cult classic series again by making the enemies more difficult than they were in the easy Risky's Revenge. The Metroidvania maps are set up as linear island stages, but Wayforward came up plenty of clever puzzles that require lots of backtracking. Shantae 3 still isn't as unfair or grueling as the first game, but the game mechanics feel incredibly well-refined. And I love that rockin' soundtrack, man.
