Here's another allegedly broken part of YouTube that's always worked for me:
The subscription box.

All the videos appear there. All the channels I'm subbed to, I stay subbed to. When I finish a video or am not interested in a video, I click "Hide" and it goes away, so only the unwatched videos remain. It's pretty neat, and it's organized chronologically. Sometimes a video might appear a little late, at most a few hours after being uploaded, but it's no big deal.
I have every single bell notification disabled, because of how I feel about notifications in general.
I subscribe to a channel and head over to https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions , and it just works.
