This is a tragedy in the MCU, because this isn't just a complete horrible film. There is a good film in here, but it's also running against a bad film at the same time. This had an amazing hot set-up, they're arresting Loki from back in the original Avengers ending, they're bringing him in. That should have set up Thor to SOAR. You've got this gripping story between Thor's family, INCLUDING the interaction between Thor and Loki...with some meddling now that Natalie Portman's character is brought up to Asgard. Oh so, now Thor's love interest now off Earth, GREAT, now we don't have to cut down to Earth like in the last movie...wait... you mean we have to cut down to Earth MORE THAN THE LAST MOVIE!? HOW!? WHAT IS THERE TO SHOW!? KAT DENNINGS AND HER AWKWARD HUMOR WHILE TRYING TO HUNT DOWN A NAKED SCIENTIST!? THAT'S NOT IMPORTANT. AND IT'S NOT EVEN FUNNY. THEY SPEND LIKE ANYWHERE FROM 30-40% OF THE MOVIE ON THIS. So there's this awful chase for a naked scientist plotline hogging up the serious moments of the movie. There's a death of a major character and it's hard to stay into it when the movie is bogged down by horrible comedy within minutes of each other. On top of that, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster is just so uninteresting compared to other significant others of the MCU. She gets so much screen time compared to other characters who'd do better with it. The romance is just not interesting in this movie. Thor's gang of friends I wanted to get to know more of in the last movie? They're barely in this, they seem so interesting and they get shafted. And of course, even the villain is kinda dull, probably the dullest villain of the MCU so far, bad use of Christopher Eccleston. So with all that, I barely tolerate the film only because of MCU franchise building and the half of the good movie that is held up by Thor and Loki. It's one of the rare cases where I find that the comedy and the romance of a Marvel film actually kills it and that Drama and Action was the strongsuit in this movie! It pretty much is the weakest MCU film. (P.S. I'd still rather watch this over any DC Extended Universe film that isn't WonderWoman, that's how strong MCU is, that even their blemish still kills most of their line-up!)
