Okay, what joker put all the neo-fascist autocrats in the list? Duterte? Really? He's literally personally murdered people. And Wilders and Le Pen and Orban and Modi... Trump and Putin and Netanyahu are bad enough, but at least you can kind of make sense of their popularity. Modi too I guess... and David Duke and Kim Jong Un. Sigh. Some people.

Also, who the hell actually likes Bobby Jindal?

Editing … It's not about trying to seek power for the sake of it. Ideally it's about being in a position to effect change, change that is often badly needed. Most politicians, in my experience, don't want power for it's own sake. Of course there are exceptions, and of course it's possible for priorities to change as time goes on for whatever reason, but whether you agree with their positions or not, most politicians are idealists of some sort and have some sort of agenda that they care about.

Editing … So does everyone. That's the point. I have an agenda I care about (anti-death futurism and transhumanism with a mix of internationalism and social and economic progressivism) and I would love to have it have wider influence. That doesn't make me a bad person. It makes me want what I think is best. Same with elected officials, though their agendas are generally more mainstream than mine.

So it's sensible to try to work towards a shared goal to make a satisfying world. How would you propose bringing about change without elected officials or bureaucrats to manage things and steer an agenda? I don't mean the ones currently in power, I mean generally. You need somebody.

I have mixed feelings for her because I do think she wants to reform Myanmar and bring forth a stronger democracy, and that deserves support, but scapegoating Rohingya or turning a blind eye to their genocide and general hardship is indefensible. I'm not sure how much power she has to change things compared to the army, but she can surely do something, and her rhetoric and her actions show she isn't interested.

I work with a Filipino woman and when i asked about Durerte she said everyone in her family loves him back home because he's actually cleaning up the country from drugs and underage prostition and is trying to get rid of the Muslim terrorists in the southern part of the country. She said he was her mayor before she came to America and she said he was a nice guy lol.

He's bragged about personally killing (read: murdering) people in the past when he was mayor of Davao. His administration is corrupt and violent.
