My favourite part about making my Final Fantasy fanfic/encyclopedia is taking optional bosses and weaving them into my narrative :)

Editing … I have to find it hilarious that they added a superboss to FF1. What's wrong with just having a final boss and an ending. I guess that wasn't complicated enough.

Editing … a few days ago I had ff1 and 2 in my folder of isos I plan to add to my psp, but then I watched some gameplay and came to my senses. It's not just the random battles, but the music, it's just weird that because of random battles the music changes back and forth constantly between those two tunes, and it's quite jarring. That's why in my RPG I like the music to mesh together and I keep the battle theme downbeat. They could learn a thing or two from me.

Editing … I totally get that, but at the end of the day, I don't expect them to record new music for a 30 year old game. I love the game regardless, and on long grining sessions, I usually listen to podcasts or music anyway. It's good to multi-task when you have so many interests.

Editing … It was remixed back when it was remade for the PS1, but that was done purely to make use of the Playstation soundchip. That was also the beginning of the game being remade. Until that point, it had only ever been on NES and Wonderswan.

Editing … I wasn't into the first two Final Fantasy games. If I beat them, it'll just be a completionist thing, to say I've beaten all of the first ten before the series went nuts, but then I'd have to beat VI as well, and that's three lengthy games I don't like, so it's very unlikely I'll do it. I liked what I played of I more than II or VI though, so maybe that's worth another shot.

Editing … I just like the simplicity of it. You hit things on the head, and go up in level. You then move to the next area, hit some more things on the head and repeat until you've hit everything on the head. RPG goodness at it's most simple.

Editing … I like having a system of some sort. That said, my tastes change all the time. Right now I kinda appreciate how easy FFIX is and how much EXP you get, and that game barely has a system. I really liked Dragon Warrior I on gameboy color, which is as simple as can be. Mostly, you're just one character exploring the world map and fighting one enemy at a time.

Editing … I don't seem to think of games as a time investment the way other people do. When people go "that game's too long, I don't have time for that" it confuses me. I don't spend more time per day playing when I games I'm playing are longer. I play a game when I feel like playing a game.

Editing … Time commitment matters a lot to me when replaying games. I feel guilt over not playing all the other games I have. So I actively avoid replaying games that have a completion length of 50+ hours. I struggle a lot with my backlog (as is known to literally everyone who has met me). Choosing long games in general also causes me trouble due to my poor memory. I have a limited window before I end up needing to put a game down for a while. I then forget everything I was doing in the game, it's mechanics and how to play it. In longer games, this means that I end up having to relearn a game multiple times and it becomes even more of a time investment. In general, my shitty memory makes my life miserable, but it sucks the fun out of games sometimes.

I would probably spend fifteen minutes deciding before giving up. It's like "uhh on second thought lemme get back to you" *shuts off PSP*. "I was gonna play PSP but now I have to go online and decide my FF1 characters"

Editing … I like the DS/Steam version of III quite well, not sure which version Rukko is talking about. I'm meh on I, nothing about it grabs me and you have to be careful or your characters will attack nothing. I dislike II, its battle system isn't my style. I like all of III through X except for VI. I don't think I've ever noticed an RPG having a particularly higher encounter rate than any other RPG. They all feel about the same, though I think the one in Dragon Quest VIII is lower, or maybe the characters just move slower. Anyway, I like the job system in III, it's like a baby version of the ones in V and Tactics.
