It's one of the best games I've ever played and I still recommend it to people but going back to it now it's interesting how it's aged. There aren't any huge differences between this and the sequels but they add up. The proper intertwining open world and lack of fast travel add a lot to the sense of exploration, you can level up at any bonfire and improve armour which is nice and endurance governs equip load which I prefer. I did miss the faster movement and weapon arts in Dark Souls III though.

The most interesting thing is that building co-op into the single player is a double edged sword. It's fantastic when the game is new and you can get past challenges with jolly cooperation, now that it's quiet it feels like the game is missing something essential. I guess eventually it'll go offline like Demons Souls has, enjoy it while you can people!

Editing … It would probably be my favorite in the series if not for the horrible lack of polish with the frame rate and the blinding bloom in Lost Izalith. That and I'm really glad they've eased up on the esoteric aspects with subsequent releases. Purging Stone? Where will I find one of those? ALL THE WAY BACK THERE!?!?!?!

Editing … Yeah, DeS went offline a while back. For me it goes Dark Souls > Dark Souls III > Dark Souls II > Demons Souls > Bloodborne. I'd love it to have some of the tweaks and polish from the sequels but it's still my favourite.
