Bethesda hasn't taken down the original version of Skyrim to enforce Special Edition sales http://store.steampowered.com/app/72850/
Good. It's common for devs to remove the option to purchase the original title once their improved release is out (Sleeping Dogs), but to do so for Skyrim would be hurting what's literally gaming's hugest modding community.
BioShock's remasters include the original versions as part of the purchase (and owning the originals also granted the remasters for free). A bit nice, if there's something to be had in the originals that the remasters don't have. Also good for archival purposes.

Editing … I'm surprised by how little they changed the game, and they still have the balls to ask for sixty euros. They didn't even fix all the bugs for Christ's sake.

Editing … I heard one explanation was that the game was slightly amped as they were preparing the engine for Fallout 4, and then they decided to improve it enough for a full release. It's not a remaster, it's just another "definitive edition" release. I think it has purpose in existing--it adds some effects previously only found in ENBs, upped visuals, including some which can't even be modded in (currently), and mod support for Xbox One! (and... uh... idk, godmode for PS4?). The 64-bit engine also removes some mod limitations on PC. Just considering how many people are huge fans of this game (it's one of the gods of the market, pretty much), it has every reason to become available to a larger audience. Also, the game is $20 cheaper on PC than on consoles.

Editing … Right now, ENBs can't work on SSE though, because the new Creation Engine is based off DX11, instead of DX9. Unless the ENB dev makes a new build, there will be no ENBs... and the original Skyrim will always be the prettier game, after both iterations have been modded.

Editing … I heard another explanation was that Bethesda really, really, REALLY likes money and so they decided to release a new "definitive version" of the game without bothering to really make it current gen, resulting in it looking like a good looking game from five years ago, fucking up the mod support and leaving the same problems the gameplay had whilst not even bothering to remove the mods.

Editing … I don't see the point of the special edition on PC but for XB1/PS4 it's cool that there's a port.

Editing … Enhanced modding capability (due to being 64-bit) is the primary upgrade on PC. At any rate, since they made the improvement over the base game, there wasn't much point keeping it off of the PC (and they made it free if you owned all the content in the game, so it's not an inconvenience)

Editing … I had thought that SSE performed super well, and it looks like in many cases, the FPS even doubles from the original game. This means that, besides being allowed more RAM for our mods, we'll also be able to manage more intensive mods without dropping frames. Neato.

Editing … I suppose I never got my hopes up for a remaster. They established that it would just be a minor enhancement visually, I expected something along the lines of Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition, but free. A slight free enhancement, alright, nothing to be bugged about. On consoles, well, it's a huge game reaching an audience of people who might not've been able to play before, and one of those platforms even has mods now.
