PSA for all you Vita and PS TV owners out there: In about 17 hours a new homebrew solution will be released called HENkaku. It works on the latest 3.60 firmware, and only requires you to visit the HENkaku website on your system and hitting the install button. Its a softmod, so the process has to be repeated each time you reset the console. Files are transferred using FTP, and a separate memory card is required as internal memory is not currently supported.

This does not allow you to pirate Vita games (yet...), but it does allow you to install a bunch of emulators on it.

Editing … "This does not allow you to pirate Vita games..." just when I thought this console would finally be useful.

Editing … Well, they've stated the exploit will forever only support firmware 3.60. This looks to have been a deliberate decision rather than a requirement of the exploit itself. They also have this little excerpt on the website: "we also made sure to make it as difficult as possible to repurpose our tools to enable piracy. While piracy is always inevitable, we will not make it easy." So there's certainly a chance that this could be leveraged to run Vita games in the future. They also mention that while they won't provide support for the Vita's native PSP/PS1 emulation, it's just a matter of someone else stepping up to the plate and making an app that creates PSP launchers. So that's something we can hopefully expect fairly soon. If you want to be future proof and haven't used your Vita in a while, you need to update to firmware 3.60 before it stops being available.

Editing … Just tried it out and... yup, the thing totally works. You just hit Install, and you end up with a Shell bubble allowing you explore the contents of your memory card and internal memory. If it errors out after hitting Install, you'll have to rebuild the app database first by removing the memory card and reinserting it (turning off your system first, as memory cards aren't hot-swappable). In order to upload files, you open the Shell and hit the Select button, which will run the FTP server and give you the IP address and port. Also, I just found out I can apparently now remove the blacklist on my PS Vita TV. That always bugged me, especially as there have been cases where English versions of games supported the PS TV while Japanese versions didn't, like in Tales of Hearts for example.
