veganism
Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of either the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions are sometimes made between several categories of veganism. Dietary vegans (or strict vegetarians) refrain from consuming animal products, not only meat but also eggs, dairy products and other animal-derived substances. The term ethical vegan is often applied to those who not only follow a vegan diet but extend the philosophy into other areas of their lives, and oppose the use of animals for any purpose. Another term is environmental veganism, which refers to the avoidance of animal products on the premise that the industrial farming of animals is environmentally damaging and unsustainable.

Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … The last time I played mtg in person one of my opponents claimed to be vegan. Talk about out of pocket. Commander games don't normally segway into animal rights.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … Oh my god. That's freaky. Good thing I happened to stop eating tofu (that shit is poisonous) so I'm in the clear I think.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Tofu is not poison. I explained this many times about tofu. But if people will not listen or do 2 minutes of research beyond lol tofu is gay then I'm not going to say any more about it. Tofu is a bean and it is actually very healthy and is shown many times over to be very healthy even if you think it's weird. Also tofu has been eaten for ages by entire civilizations in asia. They manage just fine.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … No, it's poison. Maybe it's something about the manufacturing process. Cultural precedent does not matter. I'd eat two containers raw, and can obviously tell that something is wrong. They may be laced with metal or microplastics. Or maybe it's pesticides. Granted I am the US, so maybe it's just 'mericuh made Monsanto tofu that is bad, while elsewhere in the world it is fine.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … What the actual fuck? Why would anyone eat two containers raw? A daily portion is 100 grams max. I would feel sick eating two tubs that's 650 grams if you have the small tubs. Tofu making is nothing strange. All you do is stamp the cooked beans and put them through a straining cloth/tofu shape and put pressure on it to make it stick together. It's nothing weird. It's the same bean as edemame only ripe, dried and cooked. If tofu were a poison people would die from it if they ate it. I'm not making a cultural argument there just happen to be entire populations of people who have "tested" it and eaten it regularly for their entire lives and have not been poisoned by it because it's not a poison. It's also not feminizing to humans at all. You will get poisoned from eating any raw beans for sure but who does that?
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … It could be the reason so many people are gay or trans now. I've heard it's the fluoride in the water but it could be dietary.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Do you really believe that? If you are afraid of hormonal effects don't drink milk then because it has actual mammalian estrogen (and progesterone because we milk pregnant cows) that our body does use in the same way as our own estrogen and it has been shown to have an actual significant measurable effect on estrogen levels in men. (but it still won't turn you trans or gay, it will effect your hormonal balance) But if any food could turn you gay or trans milk would be the food. Being gay and trans is trendy now. Young people want to be trendy and special. Also most of the trans people are actually girls (who are always very susceptible to social trends) wanting to chop their tits off. Not boys. I know when I was in school there were 6 girls who all around the same time became lesbian suddenly. Statistically this was impossible. This was right at the time it became edgy and trendy online. They tried it out for about half a year to a year and then they suddenly all got boyfriends. Not everyone who says they are gay or trans actually are. They are just teens and young adults figuring themselves out. The actual amount of gay and trans people is very small. The adult gay and trans population in older age brackets is not increasing. It is a cultural phenomena.

Saved!NodleyEditing … I don't drink milk. I hardly even drink coffee nowadays so I get a splash of milk a week at most. I wonder what other stuff in processed foods can upset your balance and stuff?
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Well I guess maybe some sneaky e numbers or something and getting fat in general is bad for your hormones because fatty tissue creates estrogen.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … I tried Shake Shack burgers for the first time today. I wonder if this might be my new thing. Strange though.. they splash a bit of hot sauce over the buns. The outside of the buns. I thought it was intentionally done ("for a little extra kick!!" they probably think) but maybe it was an accident, I unno. I ordered a hot dog too, and it did not have it. I'm afraid to know what madness is going on in their kitchen, like hourly sriracha food fights or some weird shit.

Saved!Looks like vegans have to become breatharians now: https://www.sciencealert.com/plants-really-do-scream-out-loud-we-just-never-heard-it-until-now
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Oh hey, I saw some videos of breatharians on the you tubes. Those guys are proper weirdos, they make Rukk look perfectly sane. One of them called dave drinks his own piss in a morning. Another woman claimed she'd lived like that for years but as soon as a camera crew started following her to prove it she ended up in hospital within days lmao.

Saved! In the old days before trade what did vegans eat in the winter? Nothing grows right?
-
Saved!SudertumEditing … Grain based food my thought as in the past poor people couldn't afford to buy meat as it was too expensive.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … In the old days, there were no vegans. There were only normal people, and cannibals.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Beans, grains, potatoes, sweet corn, nuts and seeds and things like acorns store really well. You could also dry some fruits and vegetables if you'd like. Practically everything I eat could be stored for at least a year unrefrigerated. The only thing I'd miss would be fresh veggies and fruits but then all of the non-vegans outside of the equator would also miss them from their diet. Living near the equator sounds like a nice option too. Why any people decided to leave the equator is beyond me.
-
Saved!SudertumEditing … Easy choice to leave equator, avoiding high temperatures with high humidity. Also many nasty illnesses and animals. Tropical nativ settlements were on opposit locations compared to europe. We prefer valleys and rivers or lakes to settle, there top of hills staying away from waterways.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I was thinking on it and I don't think vegans would have survived before modern farming and all the rest. You would just eat what you could when you could.
-
Saved!SudertumEditing … Since ancient civilizations a "vegan" lifestyle will be existent asking me. Wouldn't be surprised to read that scientists recognice a word meaning vegan which was considered untranslateable before.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … What foods grow in Europe all year round? There might be year round crops on the equator, I don't know. But in winter we can't grow anything.
-
Saved!SudertumEditing … Bread of different grain types with grain legumes for winter with nuts and dried fruits. Never underestimate creativity in finding eatable food. My granddad ate salad with leaves from leontodon and urtica during the war.

Saved!KlemoibEditing … Usually the ones making the most fun of vegans are the ones that will become vegan the soonest. :-P
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Is that something the vegan community randomly came up with as a coping mechanism?
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Klem, I'm a part time vegetarian. I place more importance on getting my veg than anybody I know except you and my 2 vegan bodybuilder friends, so you're not far off.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I love all the vegan memes I'm just in the group for a laugh some of them are hilarious.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I actually had a veggie pizza last night. I got an al capone it's mushrooms onions and garlic.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … It's funny for me being vegan just normal now and almost mundane. I do remember making fun of vegans when I was vegetarian hehe. I was never nasty but I did have my judgements. Nod you are much more respectful than most when it comes to my eating preferences, including my past self. I've had people put meat on my plate out of nowhere just to spite me and I've heard whispers of secretly putting in meat in my food without telling me and of course I've had to listen to many long lectures about how I would drop dead soon from malnutrition (funnily enough when I was vegetarian nobody tried to feed me meat). People are much more friendly towards me being vegan now though than 5 years back and I didn't change a thing. Plus there are a lot more vegan options so I don't have to go hungry when I've not prepared a meal. It's still difficult though to find a sandwich in the Netherlands without cheese. Cheese is everywhere here. I never noticed before. A vegan meme I can appreciate though. https://images7.memedroid.com/images/UPLOADED982/5e05d09d5d76c.jpeg
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … I'm so hungry now want pizza too. Oh wait. I'm going out today and I'm getting fries with ragoût croquettes. That's almost as good. Maybe I should just go get some breakfast for now.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Some of my favourite food is veggies. If I ever see potato gratin on a menu I get it no matter what. And root veg mash mmmmmm
-
Saved!SudertumEditing … Me as veggie (1980s) i was treated (in my family) like beeing ill, to be cured to become a proper carnivor like them. (They are mostly dead now due their unhealthy life so good riddance.)

-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … That is a very bad, ill informed and misleading video. I could destroy this video pretty easily with sources and all but I really don't feel like doing that tbh and I've got nothing to prove besides it would take weeks to gather everything. Western price is up there with Eric Berg in bad diet info. I really wish people would stop using him as a source and falling for these kinds of entertainment style youtube influencer nutrition videos.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … But he's correct on lots of things, vitamins, choline, anti nutriets, nutrent absorbtion etc. Eating some meat only improves on a vegan diet.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … Oh interesting, this is the same yt channel that made the video about vegetable oils. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rQmqVVmMB3k
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … What's with all the yt channels going after veganism lately? xD nobody's forcing you to convert
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Yeah, I don't see many recommending a balanced diet. The vast majority are all eat vegan, or eat carnivore, or fast, or atkins diet.... there's no wonder people don't know what is best.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Vegans wish they could force people to convert, but they're too weak and malnourished to even put in an earnest effort
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … If I ever hear the words "anti nutrients" again I think my head will implode. (they exist but their significance is extremely overblown within some health communities) It's like YouTube from 7 years ago is being regurgitated over and over again. YouTube is a cesspool when it comes to nutrition. Nobody actually takes the time to know what actual researchers are writing or look at the entire body of literature instead of one study that seems to support their standpoint. I really don't care anymore. I'm glad I don't come to that side of YouTube anymore.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … What I do care about is that Veganism has kind of been hijacked. It used to be about animal welfare but now people are using the term to refer to people who want to cut down on meat carbon or something or who want to only eat mango because they think it will make them skinny. People treat is as if it is a diet but it has always been an ethical movement and not a diet.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … But anti nutrients are important to people who need to know about diet and nutrition. What good is spinach for iron if your body only absorbs 2% of the iron? As a diet veganism falls flat but I get the animal welfare thing, that's a fair cause.
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Your body up regulates or down regulates your iron absorption depending on how much iron your body needs. Non-heme iron (plant iron) has an absorption rate of 2% to 20%. Heme iron from animals has an absorption rate of 15% to 35%. But the average person still has more non-heme iron in their bodies because non-heme iron is the most common form of iron in food (unless you do the carnivore diet or something). Iron is not something you want too much of. That is why your body tries to regulate it. Too little iron is not good but too much iron is also not good.

Saved!I've been thinking again. What if a vegan becomes a vampire? What would they do?!
-
Saved!KlemoibEditing … Go to the blood donation bank just like any modern sensible vampire would do. Can't just go sucking people's blood without consent.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … I read a manga once where a vampire/demon (I forget which) called himself a vegetarian. Meaning he drank human blood but refused to eat human meat. I thought that was really interesting, it stood out to me so much that think the mangaka intentionally included that in order to try and make a point.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Don't they eat people? I'm gonna miss these intellectual discussions when i get another job.
-
Saved!WoodrowShigeruEditing … They probably drink only plant-based blood … I wonder, is that tree sap, then?
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I was thinking this after I watched all 3 blade films. Triple H is shit in Blade trinity. Good films though.

Saved! Here's my old MMA coach and his wife. They are both lovely people, and Mark is huge considering he's a vegan and in his 50s.
