Rock music hit a bit of a lull in 2012, so Alabama Shakes was literally a breath of fresh air. The band brought old-school blues rock, loud jamming and soul singing back to the forefront. Although the band certainly brings memories of the Janis Joplin blues rock era, they're also louder than any of the bands back then. The Amazon description even noted some 10 minutes of guitar feedback at the end of "Hold On." I listened to the song and it isn't that much feedback. If anyone finds that version, please let me know, because that must've been a badass jam, man.

Editing … Yeah, the band literally rose to fame out of a small deli/tavern in Alabama. I don't think they received much airplay, which is a surprise. I know rock was losing popularity, but damn, Alabama Shakes was one of the more original bands. They were jamming some loud, inspirational stuff when no one was doing anything interesting in music. If it wasn't for Brittany and her band, 2012 would've been really boring.

Editing … I also have a hard time remembering the band's name. I can recognize their single, but I don't think the band's name caught on for me until they released their second album.
