Zachry Bailey is a member of a tribe called the Valleymen, and the narrator of Sloosha's Crossin' an' Ev'rythin' After - which consists solely of chapter 6. Zachry is the narrator of the sixth chapter, "Sloosh'a's Crossin'." He witnesses the brutal murder of his father and the abduction of his brother by a rival tribe when he is just nine years old. He is a member of a tribe called the Valleymen, who live simply, barter with nearby communities, and raise goats. When a woman of the Prescients arrives on his island of Ha-why (Hawaii), she stays with Zachry and his family. Slowly and somewhat grudgingly, Zachry and Meronym become friends, and it is with her that he escapes the brutal Konas, who ransack his village and slay his kinsmen.
