But Iyashikei qualities gradually creeped into the less mainstream shows in the 2000s, from Haibane Renmei to Maria Watches Over Us. Now we have bigger budget shows like Aria and Laid-Back Camp catching mainstream success. It's a surprising trend, but hey, the anime studios saw their opportunity and went all in at the right time.
