Wii U
The Wii U is a video game console from Nintendo and the successor to the Wii. It was released November 18, 2012 in North America, November 30, 2012 in Europe and Australia, and December 8, 2012 in Japan. The Wii U's primary controller is the Wii U GamePad, which features a 6.2 inch touchscreen with 480 x 854 resolution, intended as a secondary screen to supplement the TV. Select games support "off-TV play" meaning they can be played entirely on the GamePad, allowing family members to watch TV.

Saved!I'm not saying this is the worst console ever, but it's definitely in the top one.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I use mine for playing Mariokart. I was enjoying #Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE though. I'll need to get back to that. It was good fun.
-
Saved!Travis GreenEditing … I haven't owned a Nintendo console sense the Gamecube, and pretty much loathed it aside from a couple games. Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a game I desperately wish I could play, but I'd never buy a Wii U to do it.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I bought it to play Tokyo Mirage, Xenoblade Chronicles, Mariokart 8, Smash Brothers, Kirby's Epic Yarn and Lego City Undercover.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Tokyo Mirage Sessions? It may be good but I'll never know. A shame really. I still get that awesome feel from playing the original Mario Kart, Silent. I don't need the most recent version. BTW, what we up to now? Mario Kart 74?
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … In general, I'll buy a Nintendo Console long into it's life cycle for the exclusives. I almost always hate the controllers though, and it's a shame they aren't the best graphically. But I just gotta have my JRPG's and that means straying into Nintendo territory from time to time.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … If Nintendo actually competed power vs power in their consoles so we got the best games, just like in the senes era, I'd buy it day one.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Sadly I think those days are gone. But who knows, I've been wrong before. I think. Probably. Maybe once.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … Lol, I'm surprised you got what I meant to say there, autocorrect screwed me. I edited though. Men are never wrong! That once before, well there were mitigating circumstances! It wasn't just black or white.
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … Nintendo have had the same strategy for three consoles in a row. They rely on exclusives and gimmicks rather than actually trying to compete with PlayStation/Xbox/PC for hardware power or offering something you can play all the best multiplatform games on. Wii U was just the one with the weakest gimmick.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … And I hope everybody learned their lesson.

Saved! Is this the first Nintendo console (besides the Virtual Boy, that doesn't count) not to have its own exclusive Zelda game?
I mean, Breath of the Wild will also be launching on Switch, and will probably always be thought of as a Switch game. Do we still count it as "a Wii U exclusive with a Switch rerelease?"
NES: Zelda, Zelda 2
SNES: Link to the Past
GB: Link's Awakening
N64: Ocarina, Majora
GBC: Oracles
GBA: Four Swords, Minish Cap
GC: Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures
Wii: Skyward Sword (I honestly don't know where Twilight Princess goes, it's rather like Breath of the Wild)
DS: Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks
3DS: Link Between Worlds, Tri Force Heroes
What do you have, Wii U?
Two HD remasters and a multi-gen release. (Multi-gen? Are we beginning the 9th generation of gaming? What is this?)
I dunno, I'm kinda disappointed that we never got a Zelda game designed specifically with a TV + second screen in mind. These new iterations always made use of the new unique hardware (for better or for worse).-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Most of these games were later released on other platforms, I was just going based off of the one they were initially announced and released for. In this case, though, multiple platforms are announced before its release, even though I think it will land on Wii U first (and be "exclusive" for like all of two months). Hyrule Warriors wasn't announced for 3DS until spending a while on Wii U. Still, having a rerelease so soon after the original launch does ruin an attempt to call it "exclusive," you're right.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … No precise release date is available, wow, might even be a same-day release on both platforms.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … I don't see it as a Wii U problem specifically so much as Zelda games taking longer and longer to make, while ninty's console cycles becoming shorter and shorter. Even if breath of the wild was WiiU exclusive it would have been too late to save the wiiu. People actually wanted a new Zelda game as a launch window title.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Personally, I want every Wii U game to lose its exclusivity and come to Switch (since it's a platform I currently intend to own)
-
Saved!LizardTaroEditing … U mad?! That would be a slap into the face of every Wii U owner UNLESS you get the Switch version for free if you own the Wii U version.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Honestly, I'm just rooting for whatever's best for me, not Wii U owners. Here, they got to play the games earlier than I did :p
-
Saved!DjinnFighterEditing … I'm not sure they will release it first on Wii U. They will sell more Switch if they release it first on Switch. For example, in america, Twilight Princess was released on Wii first, the GameCube version arrived several weeks later. And it was developed for GameCube.
-
Saved!I still don't know a single must-have title for this machine.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … There are plenty Mario Karts, does anything make this one a system-seller? Does the console have a single system-seller?
-
Saved!AxersiaEditing … Sure, for Nintendo fans it has tons. For non-Nintendo fans... I mean, Zelda BotW looks like it could be something special, Xenoblade X was probably a system-seller to somebody, and I'm sure there were a few hardcore Bayonetta fans out there that wanted to play the sequel. That's about it, I guess.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Xenoblade and Zelda are super tempting. I won't buy a system unless I see 20 games I'd like to buy, though (at least one being a big interest, though)
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Sound plan. I usually go for 10 games of high interest, and at least another dozen of moderate interest. Unless it's Sony, then I always know I'll get plenty to play eventually.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … I've already got far more than twenty for the PS4. Definitely gonna get myself a Pro, unless it turns out something huge was fucked up, or whatever.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Seems like the best time to get one! I wish I'd waited. The whole mid-gen upgrade idea has pissed me off to no end and I won't be getting the PS5 at launch, that's for damn sure.
-
Saved!TanteGuroEditing … The Pro looks beyond stupid with those three parts. I actually thought it was a joke when I first saw it. Before getting a Pro I have to get PS VR, Steering Wheel, Racing chair, Nintendo Switch and a new TV to take advantage of HDR so I'm basically not getting the Pro :p
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I had a good chuckle at them just adding another layer to the "sandwich" :p
-
Saved!Sooooner than expected........
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … As do I :p There are enough games that I want that I should be happy enough :)
-
Saved!Ed KickEditing … I'd very much recommend Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze. Best game on the console in my opinion.
-
Saved! So that's it? Nintendo's just going to leave things like this? :(
-
Saved!free fallEditing … I didn't think it was possible but they actually made a console with a worse library than the Gamecube.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I said all this way back in the Unikgamer days, but the fanboys said I was wrong and it was going to be awesome.
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … I'm surprised it isn't at least going to get its own exclusive Zelda but yeah, it always seemed predictable that the Wii U wasn't going to be a big success. Not betting powerful enough to share multiplatform games with PS4/XB1 and a weak tablet controller gimmick looked like a bad combination as soon as they announced it.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I'm still getting one :P I never played Wii, so I have that whole library to draw from as well. As long as they keep the digital store running, I should be happy with it. I got the N64 and Gamecube after they were dead in the water. I may as well keep the tradition alive :P
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … There was a point when they weren't dead in the water? Playstation owned those gens.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … I meant once they were officially dead :P I always wait till Nintendo gives up on them.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … I've downloaded Nintendo roms since the snes died, I aren't paying for that rehashed garbage.
-
Saved!Splatterhouse 5Editing … I always buy Nintendo systems late in their life cycles, and then pick up the games of interest in one fell swoop. Competing systems simply dominate my time and interest while Nintendo libraries slowly get to a late point where I finally see a benefit to owning one. The Switch is actually the soonest I've ever bought a Nintendo system, but if I didn't have daughters to influence that decision, the Switch wouldn't have been any different.

I am not surprised. Wii U is dead. -

Saved!LizardTaroEditing … I wouldn't recommend it. D: Better wait for the NX instead. It might have backwards compatibility.
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … My friend has been telling me that as well, but I'm not sure, because there are Wii titles I am interested in, and I doubt the NX will play those. By July, I should have my answer though
-
Saved! What a fucking piece of shit this is.
-
Saved!271072aEditing … I mean you don't love a pretty solid game every couple of months. I mean it isn't like the PS4, and Xbox One has a new solid game coming out every month....
-
Saved!UltyEditing … The console itself, hardware and software-wise, is an abomination. It has some really great games though, and will get a possible candidate for GOTG in Zelda Wii U, which is really sad honestly...
-
Saved!271072aEditing … The problem with the console is that it is too over-complicated. I mean why spend more money to port your games to a console that is super different from it's competitors, so the console never gets games. No one besides Nintendo really knows what they hell they are doing with the gamepad. PS4, and Xbox One are the clear winners of this gen because are getting the big generation defining games while the Wii U is getting Smash 4, and Zelda U. Nintendo just needs to make a simple console with the NX.
-
Saved!UltyEditing … I actually appreciate the fact that Nintendo is the only one trying to introduce new ways to play games, that is a HUGE plus for them in my opinion. I just don't think the Gamepad worked. It's not nearly as comfortable to handle as an actual controller, it's touchpad barely changes anything gameplay-wise, and I just find looking back and forth between the TV and the Gamepad screen awkward and unnecessary. With the NX they should make a more traditional console, just so they can stand a chance sales-wise, but when they stop trying to innovate with consoles the industry will suffer alot.
-
Saved!NodleyEditing … If you just listened to your uncle nod you'd have saved yourself this heartache. The moral of the story is: always do as I say.
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … the gamepad could have been a viable concept, it's just a tad too big and heavy
-
Saved!rockshard PhDEditing … that isn't really the issue imo. Also because it uses resistive touchscreen and because the controller surface is so wide, it's terribly impractical for games to use it in the first place. It needed to something more like a cross between what it is now and a Vita, in terms of size and shape.
