I recommend Weezer to anyone who likes melody-driven rock with some surprising levels of energy mixed in.

I probably align myself with this band more than any other. They're a bunch of nerds raised on metal and hard rock, like me, but then also discovered more obscure stuff as adults, like me. They are all from the east coast (although I probably won't move to LA), like me. Rivers always writes songs about relationships and nerdy stuff like D&D, which is what I think about all the time now (just replace D&D with video games). They released two perfect albums in the 90s and Rivers recorded demos for an album that, while unreleased, was unlike anything anyone else ever did before or since, as well as having good music. After Rivers' depression following Pinkerton's release they haven't been quite the same, but each album following Pinkerton had a few stellar songs that, even though they weren't much like the older stuff weezer did, was still great. Even with all of their shortcomings in their later years I consider the whole of Weezer's history to be more than the sum of its parts. Needless to say, they are my favorite band of all time.
