VR the biggest loser this holiday?

SuperData revises its VR forecasts with PSVR seeing the largest downgrade

    http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2016-11-29-vr-the-biggest-loser-this-holiday

Thanks to "notably fewer units sold than expected due to a relatively fragmented title line-up and modest marketing effort," VR headsets are now expected to sell even fewer than previously thought. SuperData's revised forecast for 2016 calls for under 750k PlayStation VR units sold (their previous estimate was 2.6 million)

Supposedly these are the best VR games/experiences/enhanced ports out now for the Oculus Rift:

The Assembly (first-person adventure / mystery)
    Eagle Flight (ubisoft)
Obduction (from the folks that made Myst back in the day)
Edge of Nowhere (atmospheric thrid-person horrorish game by Insomniac Games)
    Windlands (first-person platformer)
EVE Valkyrie (first-person sci-fi space action adventure)
    Technolust (cyberpunk thingie)
Apollo 11 (a recreation of the mission to the moon)
    Grand Canyon VR Experience
World of Diving / Subnautica (you swim around a bit)
    Lucky's Tale (third-person mascot platformer)

    Adrift
    Project Cars
    Dirt Rally

Maybe I should never check out VR if it can be so dangerously isolating … For me personally, stuff like this can be really be a disastrous trap.

Editing … Flat is Justice. There are plenty of "boobs the size of Jupiter" games that you could enjoy I'm sure... I've already sequestered myself so VR being isolating it's not much of an issue for me.

Editing … VR is probably the most immersive medium that you can think of right now (I imagine). You put on a helmet and get immersed in a world that others can only see if they have one, too. If you're playing it, but others in your family won't – that's isolating. If you're living alone and do VR a lot – that's isoling. Sure, there will also be multiplayer (or multi-watch) experiences. But the isolation is strong, the immersion is strong. An already existing isolation will probably be deepend … And stuff. — More on that at ~08:08 and ~30:18.

So I finally got to try out VR for the first time today, and it was pretty much exactly as I expected. That is to say, very underwhelming compared to what the VR evangelists would have you believe. It's just a screen that doesn't end, but I didn't feel like I got whisked away to a different world, and I certainly didn't drop my jaw.

The demo was a rollercoaster ride through Tokyo. Don't remember what it was called, but it was created with Unity and ran on Oculus. Perhaps something more high fidelity would've been more impressive. I felt a little wobbly when the rollercoaster went straight down so I grabbed the table just in case, but other than that I was perfectly fine standing up.

So far this seems like it'd be my preferred way to play full-length first-person games once companies actually start committing to those (I guess Bethesda is porting Fallout 4 to Vive? That'd be cool), and I'll definitely pick up a PlayStation VR at some point, but I hardly view this as the future of gaming, or the downfall of humankind as we feed ourselves though an IV and have someone come change our adult diaper. For me it's just another way to play games.

Editing … I can imagine POV horror games being an amazing experience on VR, just imagine how #P.T. would've been :O Other than that, I think i'd be very underwhelmed as well.

#Point & click adventure is the obvious genre to start with. Give me a VR version of #Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and I'm in.

Editing … That's what I'm saying. FPS are too demanding on a technical level. In a p&c game, you can make gorgeous environment (1080p) you can immerse yourself into.
