Fun fact: this game installs on Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, and 10. And possibly all future releases. "Timeless" doesn't begin to describe it. "Boundless" is more like it. There are STILL servers active with people on them.

Editing … I'm not much of a shooter person, generally, but UT 99 is one of the very few that I absolutely love and come back to every once in awhile. The flak cannon and pulse gun are my favorite weapons to use.

I had to put it on my list. You were either an Unreal fan or a Quake fan when Unreal Tournament and Quake 3 were announced. I was, and still am, an Unreal fan, despite my love for iD. Everything felt great here, and still does. You can also almost always find an online game. Try it. Love it.

Hell yeah, Unreal Tournament! With a ton of mods available, awesome music, fast-paced frantic gameplay that never gets old, and graphics that still look good today, UT is a main staple at all my LAN parties.

I spent countless hours in the demo alone that came with a PC game magazine. I had no idea of the amazement to come due to the near infinite mods that had different effect on the gameplay. It's a shame that I didn't get a good online connection until after this game was being played - I wasn't comfortable playing this on 56K, especially when a 5MB mod may mean 5 minutes per megabyte. I still had loads of fun with the very competent bots which to this day is hard to find good bots in modern shooters. Sure, games have great and complex AI in campaigns, but the bots in something like Call of Duty: Black Ops are a joke compared to the bots in the original Unreal Tournament released more than 10 years prior. The single player campaign isn't the most engrossing, engaging and involved campaign out of good shooters, but I enjoyed playing it since I loved the core mechanics of the gun play, weapon variety, movement system, pickups and level design. Oh, and I loved the music.

Played this as a young 7/8/9 year old, but damn this is legendary stuff.
As a multiplayer shooter, it's phenominal. The speed, reactions, skill and fun involved made it so so fun to play. The game has a range of cool and stylish, as well as well designed maps that were great. The guns as well were brilliant.
Lastly, the theme tune. Sends nostalgic shivers down my spine.
