It's a collectathon. Buzz wanders around in separate open levels filled with collectable items, timed challenges, and mini-bosses. There's plenty of platforming and puzzle-solving to go around. Get enough of the ultimate reward items, Pizza Planet tokens, and the space ranger will be able to access the next stage. Every two stages will be followed up with a boss, usually involving some more strategy than the minibosses. Progressing to new levels and getting certain numbers of tokens will unlock clips from the movie, which turned out to be a pretty satisfying reward.

No use trying to stress how much I've always cared about Toy Story & all things Buzz Lightyear - I just can't do it justice. Spent all my time on this game through age 10.

For a movie based game, this one was pretty good; it shares the SM64 air with it's style of platformer and collecting planet tokens that basically works has the stars collecting in the more recent 3D Mario games. For it's kids friendly nature it has a basic challenge that curves well for players of all ages; it has a kick ass soundtrack too BTW. Toy Story 2 is one of the few games I can mark has examples of how you can makes video games based on movies and be good...

This game made my childhood wish come true. The wish was to somehow get lost in the Toy Story universe. Buying toys was great and all, but playing this (and after all these years even) was the real deal. I'm a big fan of Toy Story, so that could have worked as a double-edged sword for this game. Luckily I had a blast! Not only did I have fun with the game, but the little kid inside me woke up again (and I can't stress enough how good that felt).
Pros: The level design is (most of the time) a thing of beauty, the game does justice to the Toy Story universe, fun platforming, great graphics, surprisingly great soundtrack, great sense of exploration, diverse tasks
Cons: The camera and the grab-detection are off at times, weak boss fights
