Tomb Raider is a 2013 action-adventure video game published by Square Enix. Tomb Raider is the fourth title developed by Crystal Dynamics in the Tomb Raider franchise. As the first entry in a new Tomb Raider continuity, the game is a reboot that emphasises the reconstructed origins of the culturally influential lead character Lara Croft. Tomb Raider was released on 5 March 2013 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and on 23 January 2014 for Mac OS X. Crystal Dynamics began development of Tomb Raider soon after the release of Tomb Raider: Underworld in 2008. Rather than a sequel, the team decided to completely reboot the series, establishing the origins of Lara Croft for the second time, following Tomb Raider: Legend. Tomb Raider is set on Yamatai, an island from which a Lara who is untested and not yet the battle-hardened explorer she is in other titles in the series, must save her friends and escape while being hunted down by a malevolent cult.     uggghhh I keep crashing every 30 minutes or so. I can't even make it between save points without rushing. AGH I'll just never finish it.

    I had fun in Tomb Raider 2013 when I was just hopping around collecting things and shooting some bad guys. When I had to run through a bunch of dumb crazy linear flashy explosions and danger I was like WTF is this garbage? That’s why I liked Uncharted 1 more than 2, it just just a simple shooter/platformer with pretty graphics. That’s all you need.

    Restarted it. Haha this game is so dumb. Only a kid could take this stuff seriously. Fine game though.

    Getting close to Uncharted with this one...a huge step in the right direction. Incredible game.

      Editing … You do a lot of jumping around collecting things. I get the same type of enjoyment out of it as Super Mario 64 then. And then sometimes you're running through a bunch of obnoxious explosions and falling shit and I stop having fun.

      Editing … Yeah, when I played it I kept thinking "I wish this wasn't Uncharted but an an actual platformer." Give me some obstacles, environments, and buildings and let me figure out how to traverse them instead of using Uncharted's linear platforming. Lara is meant to be a gymnast so they wasted a good opportunity to push platforming forward; still a fun game though.

    Tomb Raider didn't make a very good first impression on me. It's dark tone comes across as very overbearing, even gratuitous at times. For the most part the story isn't much to write home about either. However when the game starts to open up and gives you your combat abilities it starts to shine. The meat and potatoes game mechanics are actually quite enjoyable and more satisfying than in Nathan Drake's adventures. The environments are pretty fun to traverse too and the setting avoids being a cliche. The action setpieces are nicely paced, adding variety while not being too numerous or over the top to overstay their welcome. It may not be the most original game but it's fundamental mechanics are strong.

    Tomb Raider provides a very fun experience for the most part. Unfortunately the last half of the game becomes very monotonous and the story ends up being quite lackluster after a stellar buildup. Definitely still worth a playthrough and I'll be looking forward to the next installment in the series.
