Titan Souls is an upcoming video game developed by UK-based indie developer Acid Nerve (stylized ACID NERVE) and published by Devolver Digital. Between Earth and the world beyond lie the Titan Souls, the spiritual source and sum of all living things. Now scattered amongst the ruins and guarded by the idle titans charged with their care, a solitary hero armed with but a single arrow is once again assembling shards of the Titan Soul in a quest for truth and power. Titan Souls is a strategic, open world, 2D, top-down action game, where the player has only one arrow and one HP. The goal is to defeat the race of more than 20 giant monsters called the Titans, which are the bosses of the game and have just as much HP as the player, only one HP but only one way to be defeated. During the fight, the player has to figure out how the respective boss behaves and by that find a way to defeat that boss.     Since I only played the Ludum Dare Jam entry – a "Create a game in 48 hours" competition – and not the full game, I want to write just a Preview and not a "real" Minireview.

    "Titan Souls" is 2D action game with simplistic game design as well as gameplay, no obvious (or deep) plot, but definitely a certain charme. The world is small but non-linear, a desolate circle of mysterious temples and ruins, overgrown by nature and gorgeous 16-bit visuals. I experienced the music as fairly lovely and, while not particularly memorable, it certainly helped create an attractive atmosphere.

    The game is obviously short with its few bosses but it offers a great balance between a frustratingly challenging difficulty and a chance to get quickly back into the action.

    I didn't like the abrupt and confusing ending but other than that, I can't wait for the final game.

    Great game. Lovely, simplistic, challenging. Unfortunately, rather short, too.

    But what's with the ending? SpoilerIt's abrupt and anti-climatic, and I don't understand it from a story point of view. It also feels broken the way it throws you back. You can't end the application either, other than with the task manager.
