The Witcher (Polish: Wiedźmin ) is an action role-playing hack and slash video game developed by CD Projekt RED and published by Atari, Inc. The game is based on the book series of the same name by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The Witcher takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows the story of Geralt, one of a few remaining "witchers" – traveling monster hunters for hire, gifted with unnatural powers. The game's system of "moral choices" as part of the storyline was noted for its time-delayed consequences and lack of black-and-white morality. The game utilises BioWare's proprietary Aurora Engine. A console version using an entirely new engine and combat system, titled The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, was to be released in Autumn 2009 but was suspended due to payment problems with the console developers, Widescreen Games.       Editing … Same same same. Personally I can't stand much about the second game. Hate its combat, hate the toned down RPG elements, the uninteresting quests, the map design, and the simplified dialogue interactions. The transition from The Witcher to The Witcher 2 is sort of like going from New Vegas to Fallout 4, ya know? But The Witcher 3 didn't disappoint, so that's great. Now to see if Bethesda can turn it around as well.

    I've played through this game twice, and each time was amazing.
    The Witcher has a fantastic soundtrack, and despite its unorthodox combat system, fighting is still enjoyable. There's much dialogue to speak, questing to be had, and sex, lots and lots of sex. I even had a foursome. One time I had sex with seven women within 2-3 hours. Just one of the benefits of being as sexy as Geralt of Rivia.
    But seriously, this game is incredible fun. I felt compelled to complete every quest, because all of them were enjoyable. I wanted to explore every dialogue option, because they were all fun to listen to.
    The choices presented to the player aren't black and white, which makes them far more interesting than many other games' decisions. Geralt often has to choose what he pictures as "the lesser evil," and he'll later feel the consequences of his actions. These effects on the game feel natural, whereas many other games (hey TellTale) feel "artificial."

      Editing … hmm, how hot does the PC get? So long as parts don't go up to 90C, you should be good. Some older games seem to generate more heat than I'd expect, including Witcher 1 and L4D2 (seriously, L4D2 confuses me there)

    The combat can be sluggish at times, but I like it. Well written story, gray choices with real consequences. No bad nor evil, just real people (and monsters) doing what they thing it's best. It can be considered misogynistic though, but no other game is as mature as this one.

    The combat is laughably bad and unengaging, the isometric camera sucks, the controls are unintuitive (should have controller support), didn't care for any of the characters or the tired fantasy setting, there's a whole bunch of backtracking within the first hour (-.- seriously?) and the intro was awful in guiding you through the first levels (here are a bunch of enemies in a castle who immediately attack you after the first cutscene, I'm not going to tell you how any of this works. you figure it out.) Meh.

      Editing … It's a B-grade game, but there was a charm and fun to it: the dwarves and elves are fucking assholes, the humans are pig-shit-eating, superstitious assholes, everybody else lives in shitty village or swamp squalor, and is an asshole... I loved it.

      Editing … No no no no no. It's best RPG ever released in terms of story. Period. It just doesn't hold your hands. Yes, the controls suck a lot at the beginning, but it gets better once you understand the combat system. The game comes with a nice guide and there are tons of info on the screen. It's not meant to be played with controllers because it's a CRPG, it wasn't even released on consoles (fortunately). The story is well written and the choice/moral system is one of the few that actually work, giving deep choices instead of black and white choices. The main characters are cool, vivid and have enough back story to keep anyone interested. I can't really think about any other RPG that can get close to The Witcher in terms of story (maybe Mass Effect and definitely Deus Ex, if you consider Deus Ex as a RPG). And the camera can be isometric or the usual 3rd person, like Dragon Age: Origins.

    Finally finished The Witcher! Great story but the amount of walking and fetch questing was so painful :( The game looks really good at times though, especially in the later stages; the atmosphere & music are so good too. I'm kind of mixed on it, I spent a lot of time swearing at Geralt who would literally hold his nose and do nothing else in the middle of fights... they put so much love into the game though. It's a very flawed classic, I think it's worth it but use a walking speed mod if you play it!

    Decent! Can't pick a favourite between one or two because the story-lines are linked and, really, that's what's most interesting about the whole series.

    I enjoyed my time in the world of The Witcher. It presented new fantasy ideas, a very morally grey world, and a world full of quirky personalities. It reminded me of a blend between Fable 1 and Dragon Age Origins. The combat tried to be different, which it was, but it was ultimately a bit of a silly system after a while. I don't think rhythmic clicking is a good system for combat. Nevertheless I liked how the game was split into acts; it kept locations relatively fresh and kept the story moving forward.
    Good game. Not something I think i'll go back to, but I enjoyed it and have fond memories. Geralt was an ironically interesting guy.
    PS it came in a lovely box with huge chunky manuals and guides. Right up my street!

    A great RPG, almost everything about this game is good, the soundtracks are a real piece of art, the dark atmosphere is fascinating, and the story of course is awesome. The NPCs in this game are the most human like NPCs that I have ever seen in all the games that I played and that to me is the best thing about this game. The only bad thing about the game was the combat. The game is very fun and provides an awesome experience.
