I always meant to start this ever since playing the demo kiosk at a Gamestop all those years ago. Fast forward ten years, I've finally started playing it properly. My dream is finally coming true yaaauusss!!

So now I find the game is kind of mid? Talk about anti climactic huh? You have to play through the tedious intro for like at least 90 minutes before you get the sword and the batsuit as is typical of Zelda games nowadays. The flight controls are ass and I wonder if they should just have cut this element from the game completely. And I find myself uninterested in the sword combat which you'd think was the whole point of playing. The sword can only be swung in eight directions so the game hardly feels lile the master thesis of motion controls I initially thought it to be, but rather an awkward compromise between full motion and tradition buttons.

Right now I'm stuck in this stupid forest themed area going in circles looking for talking plants. I STILL haven't even reached the first dungeon. Honestly I think I might only force myself to get up to the part that was in the demo and just quit playing after that. But we'll see.

There's also the issue of Rodea The Sky Soldier which is another Wii game I have that I finally got to check out. But on the surface the game looks to be completely unplayable. I want to keep trying anyway bc I can't get over how bad it is and maybe I'm just missing something.

Should I perhaps get another Wii game after this? It would be nice to leave the Wii on a high note rather than the memory of knowing I was way off about a game I've waited 10+ years to play. =P

Editing … Yeah the flying is completely useless. It's just a way to hide that the overworld is just a hub. I did like the sword combat though. Some enemies are actually quite hard to beat. The wii motion controls work really well imo but the switch ones suck. On the switch I just use the regular controller and I like it quite a bit. I found myself wanting to use those stick sword slash controls in tears of the kingdom because that link is a bit uncreative in his sword swings. I recently replayed SS and I liked it more than I remember. There is a lot wrong with it but the dungeons are pretty good especially the ancient cistern. To me it feels more like a mario game though at certain moments and then it snaps back to being zelda. The game is a bit weird. Also be prepared to fight the avocado at least 3 or 4 times.

Editing … The overworld does indeed feel like a glorified level select screen. It's so lackluster.

Editing … Yeah. It's strange tears of the kingdom does a very good job of sky to ground travel but totk has shit dungeons. Skyward sword and tears of the kingdom should have sex I think. You could have bad luck and get a game out of it that has a bad overworld and bad dungeons but if you breed them long enough you would get the perfect combo of dungeons and overworld. Maybe throw in some OOT and ALTTP for ballance. After that maybe start a breeding program with Windwaker and twilight princess and the resulting hybrid game we just made and selects for story and atmosphere and good vibes.

Editing … I misjudged what TotK was, the trailers made me think it was BotW 2, while articles and social media posts make it seem like a reinvogirated Banjo Nuts & Bolts. ... And in other news, Skyward Sword HD is 39.99 digital at Best Buy. https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-legend-of-zelda-skyward-sword-hd

Editing … I could not describe tears of the kingdom. It is both botw 2 and nuts & bolts but also none of the above. I think Aonuma's gameplay demonstration gives the most honest look at the game. The new gameplay mechanics are really the core of the game. The new music and area's also give off a different vibe from botw.

This re-release is great and all, but...it's Skyward Sword. Bleh.

Whatever. I guess we aren't getting another re-release of Wind Waker.

Editing … I hear we are getting Wind Waker and TP soon. Which makes me feel as though Nintendo is continually beating us over the head with Wind Waker. It would be the third time it's being released.. I wish that game would just die already.

I was in hysterics watching the hubby reacting to the news in yesterday's Direct that the Switch rerelease could be played without motion controls. (Picture: raising his arms and hands to the sky as if praising baby Jesus, and then slowly lowering them straight in front of himself and reraising them, basically bowing emphatically to Aonuma). That was literally all he ever wanted out of this game. The bad controls completely ruined it for him.

Editing … I wanted it for the motion controls. I'm now very confused as to whether to get a Wii for it like I had planned, or a non-Lite model Switch instead, or to play it without motion controls altogether (although the thought of it makes me sad. They were something special imo). With a Switch I can check out Arms too, as well as play SS with better graphics and no Wii nunchuk cable flailing around and hitting me. :p But the Wii has Rodea which I still need to check out. So I'm leaning toward Wii.

Editing … Seeing the amount of rage my husband exuded in his playthrough, a man who has played video games for over 30 years and Zelda games since the genesis of the series, idk how anyone who played SS did so without struggling with the motion controls constantly, but apparently such people do exist. If you want a non-Lite Switch for other reasons, I would say get that version in case you deicde the motion controls aren't worth it. Highly doubt a Wii costs much at all these days anyway.

Editing … Maybe I'll play it on Wii then on Switch Lite. I'll have experienced both control styles and both graphical versions, and don't need to buy anything other than a Wii, which I wanted to own anyway. That's perfect.

Editing … I just tried the Arms demo. It feels like it was meant to be played with motion controls. And I kind of want to. =P EDIT: Actually, I think I just wanted to change the button mappings. I tried the demo again after mapping left/right punch to ZL and ZR, and blocking to B, and this feels a lot better to me. Maybe I'll get the full game!

Okay so I don't really have a "favorite" Zelda game, mostly because each game in the series is so paradoxically different yet the same as each other it makes it hard to choose. I used to like Wind Waker the best, then I liked Twilight Princess the best, then Ocarine of Time, then Link's Crossbow training. Okay maybe not that last one, but you get my point. There are a bunch of things I liked about Skyward Sword that haven't been in the series before (like the motion plus combat) and upgrading items with collectibles, and I really liked how they made each item you get more relevant throughout the whole game rather than just the dungeon you found it in. I liked the boss fights and how the game was a bit more challenging than a few of it's predessesors. I liked the more Majora's Mask-esque NPC sidequests and how they characterised the NPCs, and I also liked the story overall. I don't know I just like it and can't think of anything to complain about except nitpicks, but that's how most Zelda games go for me at least.

Skyward Sword has the same extent of perfection as every other golden entry in the series on every level EXCEPT pacing. Best story ever, but it's paced horrendously. Neat new gameplay ideas, but they get overused during filler. Innovative concepts (such as revisiting a dungeon) are often wasted in just uselessly extending the game. Other than that, though, everything about it is absolutely beautiful - from beginning to end!

If the Zelda series holds up to this day, is all matter of personal taste; to me, it holds up very well; it's a prequel to OoT, so does that fallow the storyline may find it interesting; the gameplay and design remains the same, and is not like I wished for any major change, the passing is expertly balanced and the motion based gameplay works very well, impressively well I would say. The art, atmosphere and creativity is what sets the franchise apart from the competition. Haters gonna hate, but this game shows how timeless the Zelda franchise is; it's still fun to play...

There are moments where the classic Zelda brilliance still shines through with some ingenious puzzles, fantastic boss fights and clever dungeons. The sword's motion controls also feel just right, adding a lot of excitement to the combat. Unfortunately, heavy backtracking and constant inconsequential barriers to your advancement make what could have been a tight, concise experience feel bloated, monotonous and downright boring at times. I can't recall the last time a Zelda game actually bored me. Also, the motions controls for everything else such as flying and rolling bombs are cumbersome and not nearly precise enough. Overall, good game, disappointing Zelda.

Wonderful visuals and music. The impressionistic style is very well suited to Zelda. New elements and items are well implemented, though the controls are a bit wonky at times. Item pick up notifications got on my nerves quite a bit and the text is pretty slow (and Fi sucks). A lot of features and characters are underplayed and a lot of un-fun things are dragged out. Overall the world feels empty and Skyloft is underpopulated and small. Exploration takes a backseat to make room for more action. Dungeons have new puzzles, but they do seem a bit short to me. But I still had a lot of fun with it. The best things about Skyward sword are Groose and the Beetle item. Give me a spinoff with those two and I'll be a happy klemoib.

For most people, this is either one of their favorite Zeldas or one of their least favorite. I'm in the first group. I loved the graphics, thinking they were beautiful, along with the soundtrack. I actually really liked the motion control and didn't think it detracted from the gameplay experience, except in maybe a few parts. I personally thought it was much more fun than simply presing a button. Yes, there isn't much in terms of exploration and the game is very linear, but I thought the dungeons and bosses were done very well and that the game is more difficult than the average Zelda. The upgrading system and deciding which extra items to carry also added plenty of depth to the game. You should try this at least once.
