So there's currently a Humble Bundle that includes Telltale's Guardians of the Galaxy, and it's labeled "Limited Quantity." It's been going for a week and it doesn't appear they've run out. Doesn't that just say it all?

Editing … I was originally going to skip this bundle (or maybe get the $1 tier for OlliOlli 2 and Binary Domain). Now I'm considering getting the $9 tier because I don't know if/when GotG will be pulled from stores and I do want it. The BTA remains a waste though.

Editing … Well all of their games are licensed and they can absolutely be pulled from retailers if and when the license expires, which has a good chance of happening if they go under. It happens somewhat often for licensed games, like with the Ghostbusters and Transformers games, and I know Castle of Illusion was gone from stores for awhile. It's even happened with Telltale before with their Wallace & Gromit game which is no long available, and I just discovered that apparently Poker Night 2 is gone from the Steam store as well.

Editing … It's possible the games themselves will be bought in a liquidation sale, but I think they'd have to buy the licenses themselves as well at some point if they wanted to keep them up or ever continue the series. I'm not certain of the intricacies of that kind of thing, though. Anyhow I would bet that at least some more of their titles will be gone from stores in the next couple of years.

Editing … Depending on who's interested I might guess that Sam & Max, Monkey Island, and Minecraft might be safe, but I'm not sure about the others. Poker Night at the Inventory has several different licenses so I'd bet that would go down eventually.

Editing … I know it's a thing that has happened a lot, especially for comic book games (fuck me I'm pissed there's no way to legitimately buy Turtles in Time), but as games have become more venerated as an art form I would like to think that companies have started hashing out the stipulations so that games don't have to be pulled because the winds changed. I mean especially for a company like Telltale that were known predominantly for story, the Walking Dead being hailed as a landmark for storytelling in the medium. It would be like if your only means of watching the Wizard of Oz were the second hand market or piracy. Boy I am so ready to bring out the guillotines for fucking copyright lawyers and legislators.

This is very surprising to me. Doesn't everyone know about these games? Apparently having well-known games isn't the same as best-selling games. https://twitter.com/joeparlock/status/1043227346692726784
"Basically, only the first season of The Walking Dead made money. Everything between that and Minecraft was a financial failure - Wolf, everything post-Season 1 of TWD, Borderlands, Game of Thrones. All failures."
"Batman t a n k e d and was one of the worst commercial failures for Telltale."
Wonder why they made a sequel then

Sounds like The Walking Dead: The Final Season might conclude?

Editing … If all of their games for the last 6 years have been failures, they have no one to blame but themselves since they recycled the same game design over and over. I figured that someone on top was getting rich off these games and screwing over the staff, but now perhaps not. After all, these were all licensed games with preexisting brand appeal, and had relatively cheap simplistic visuals, and generally played out like a machinima with dialogue trees. Hell, over the years I'd argue their game design got more simplistic, with puzzles and QTE's that were a step down from TWD. I thought Until Dawn showed how you can do something really interesting with the choice-driven narrative and QTE heavy gameplay. Sure, that game had a much larger budget and wasn't a runaway success either, but it should have been a wake-up call to Telltale that they needed to step up their game or try a different approach. There are tons of recent adventurey games they could have cribbed ideas from like Brothers, Ghost Trick, the Banner Saga or This War of Mine. Those are the titles that have kept adventure games alive for me.

The best case scenario would be THQ Nordic though, they're very willing to buy properties they see potential in, and they're willing to do it often.
