Any other videogame lore nuts out there? I used to spend hours reading wikis and watching videos delving into all the little minor details of videogame plots. I love series like Metal Gear Solid and Kingdom Hearts despite/because of their convoluted, plot-hole ridden nature. I love when a game universe is expanded through prequels and side-stories, even if it does mean a retcon or ten. What game universes do you guys get lost in?

Editing … When I get super into the lore, I'll often do all the lore exploration in-game, reading every fucking text entry, looking at every background detail. Make myself the wiki. Dead Space and Quantum Break have really sick lore, really wish they'd get another entry. I wanna see the year 2021, and I gotta see the Brethren Moons made whole.

Editing … Plus stuff like The Elder Scrolls and The Witcher have their own sick lore that can be really naturally explored. Some other high fantasy titles are really eager to tell you all about their exciting world, and it can lead to some clunky delivery (Dragon Age, Amalur). The Witcher's got sick events like the Conjunction of the Spheres that can tickle that need for knowledge, and The Elder Scrolls has a really extensive history, religious system, and CHIM, which is bretty frickin cool. Yeah Mr. G I do like exploring a good lore.

Editing … That's why I loved Final Fantasy, the Tales of, and mostly...(drum roll...) Suikoden! The expanded universe is a bliss. Cameos, world scale events and chronology, revelations, and fan service in the greatest RPG series.

Editing … Fallout's cool and all, but the wacky 50's never appealed to me. I just like jumping into a wasteland. STALKER's got cooler lore, the Zone holds a lot of mysteries to explore. Actually, as much as I adore the fall of civilization, STALKER's really the only one that has any deep lore that I care about. I guess I'm generally pleased to just explore the wastes.

Editing … There's nothing I don't know about FFVII, I've seen, read, played it all. Back in the day I did the same with FFVIII and IX but I've not bothered with them for years, I've forgotten a lot.

Editing … Uh...Chrono Trigger. My high school girlfriend is Marle. I also liked Primm from Secret of Mana, but I just called her Girl. I mean, the manual told me nothing about her original name. Her muppet form in the manual look pretty cool, though.

Editing … Since there's a lore discussion and I've been playing lots of the Banner Saga again, I feel like sharing how the third game fucks up one of my favorite bits of lore from the previous games. SpoilerSo in BS2 you encounter a race of centaurs referred to as "horseborn," some of whom will join your caravan. Through discussions with different characters you learn there was a war between humans and horeseborn, during which all of the horses in the land were slaughtered to extinction, the two races eventually going their separate ways. This lines up with what is seen previously in the games, with most traveling being done on foot. I thought this was a pretty cool bit of worldbuilding. After all, if a race of horse-like creatures is at war with humans, it would make sense for them to kill the domesticated animals humans would most rely on for warfare. But nooooo, in the third game it's revealed that the horseborn killing the horses was the event that precipitated the war, because domesticated horses offended them or something. Weak.
