For my Fav Songs Playlist (Song 1):
So I'm making a playlist of just my favourite songs. Ever. I decided that I should be able to write a small text about each of these songs and avoid adding too many like I always do. So that's what these "reviews" are.
When I had this idea and started the playlist I didn't need much thought to know what song to start it of. Each of the four songs on #Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven are huge adventures. Four masterpieces from beginning to end, but I had to pick one, and so I picked the very first, Storm.
From the moment those barely audible trumpets are heard, Storm gives you a feeling of a epic song to come, not "epic" in the modern sense, more like an Odyssey that you're about to embark. Throughout the song there's moments of pure beauty, incredible sadness, anger... even eeriness and fear. The song shifts from slow and calm to loud and fast slowly and then back again, from hopeful to dreadful. It's complete, it has everything but the fact that it drags itself for 22 minutes keeps it from feeling too clustered or confusing. It flows from point to point with a grace not many things have in this world.
Sure, 22 minutes is a bit of a long time to spend it trying a new song, but every time I put Storm on I can't think of a better way to spend it on.
