Started playthrough 2, or 3 if you count my 20 hours as Steve McButt (I didn't realize how much I'd grow to care about the game at the time clearly). This time, I created the character Jess, who looks kind of tough like Leah. Last time was Seafoam, who had long green hair and looked very sweet. I actually really loved the character design I gave Seafoam. She looked like she belonged in Stardew Vally, like the game creator made her.

The early game is much more tedious and grindy than it is later on. You have to focus more to get the most out of days. I can see why the game didn't instantly become one of my favorites.

I want to see how much I can do in 2 years. I think I'll marry Penny this time, or maybe Leah. The only girl I like nearly as much as Abagail is Robin, but she's married. It felt weird not kissing Abagail on sight lulz.

Though I don't know if Stardew Valley will make it into my top 10 games, I have to say I've talked about it more than any other game. I'm not usually into things that are this much about details. I'm willing to do much more tedious, repetitive, mundane stuff in this game than I am in most games.

I've spent many in game weeks just checking to see if the traveling saleswoman has a fiddlehead fern and it hasn't happened. This is getting silly, going to bed so soon after waking up each day. Maybe I'll just start a new playthrough, and if I found out how to get fiddlehead ferns in that playthrough, I'll obtain one in this playthrough and quickly get the achievement for cooking all recipes. That's the last item I need. (As always, don't tell me unless it's in a spoiler tag.)

I FINALLY FOUND THE EASY WAY TO GET HARDWOOD! Phew, this means it doesn't matter if gay couples can't have kids in the game, it'll be easy to get the 150 hardwood and whatever hardwood I need for other things on a different playthrough. It was so dumb of me not to see the thing that lets me get the easy hardwood earlier, I'm fucking blind I swear, just like how long it took me to find Linus' basket. My playthrough as Seafoam might be coming to a close soon. I just want to do every recipe. I'm growing most of what I need. The only other things I need are a fiddlehead fern and maybe garlic. I don't know how to get a fiddlehead fern (don't tell me unless you put it in a spoiler tag) but the traveling salesperson has one occasionally (which is how I completed the community center) so I just have to keep sleeping until the shop has one lulz. I'm going to be doing a lot of wasting days from now on. I still take care of the animals though cause I'd feel sad otherwise. I sold some of them so it'd take less time.

I have 10 or less each of artifcats/minerals to obtain, fish to catch, and items to ship, but I might save all that for another playthrough, though if I discover some of those things on another playthrough, I might jump back to this playthrough to do it here also.

Really, the only achievement I'm truly scared of is one of the secret ones. One is just time consuming, but the other is evil.

Gries He what IS the easy way to get hardwood?

Dr Eggnog If that was a dick joke, don't read.

I finally got all the hardwood I needed in Stardew Valley. That was some of the craziest grinding I've ever done. I really hope two girls can have kids in the game cause otherwise I'll have to do it all over again someday! That said, I had a weirdly large amount of fun with it. Because the hardwood I found was so rare, every few I found was satisfying.

Dr Eggnog 70 percent of the achievements now.

Finally finished restoring the community center. I squealed like a bitch when I got that last fish.

Just need 23 more hardwood to get the house upgrade. The casino is such a tease, they have cheap hardwood fence but not just hardwood.

I like the arcade game because it's a minigame. I only wanna do hard stuff in little bursts now and then.

Dr Eggnog Oh yeah, and I found Linus's basket . . . in year 3, lulz.

I'm always hit by how much this track feels like something that would play in the A Bugs Life game. I swear it uses the exact same synthesized instrument or something. You cool kids know what I'm talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wd6hHrLBkYI

I got hella lucky. The traveling merchant was selling a woodskip. That was one of the two fish I needed for the community center, now I don\'t have to feel bad about reading that spoiler cause it ended up not helping me. Just one fish left, I think it\'ll be in the ocean in Fall, unless it likes Spring or Summer rainy days. It hasn\'t rained in weeks, which is weird.

At first I found the characters one note and bland. Now I\'m impressed by how many scenes there are. Sometimes there will be a variation of a character portrait done for just one little scene. The attention to detail is crazy for a game made by just one guy.

In other news, octopus are just as tough to catch as a legendary.

I got 11 hardwood on one trip to the dungeon, and the next few trips I got nothing. Crazy. Just need 29 more. I might\'ve gotten that many today. I played a lot. It\'s still pretty unbalanced how rare hardwood is.

Only a few people who don\'t have their hearts completely maxed out. Technically I don\'t have to friend any more, cause I have every recipe, but I\'m so close I might as well get them all maxed out. I like how even Haley gets some character development.

Edit: Oh yeah, and I made it to the boss in the arcade game. It\'s much easier to play with a controller. I\'m impressed Kyle beat it without one.

Gries He Don't you find it annoying that hearts decrease over time?

Dr Eggnog That hasn't happened to me, or if it has I didn't notice. All my maxed hearts are still maxed and everyone else I'm frequently paying attention too.

Very slowly grinding hardwood out of the dungeon. A successful trip will get me like 3 hardwood. I might be up to 150 in like 30 trips or something. (If there's an easier way don't tell me. I've accidentally read too many gameplay spoilers on the internet as it is.)

Also, just discovered the Qi sidequest thingie. I think I was supposed to find it long before the third year.

This playthrough, I want to get the house to the max size, have two kids, complete the community center, and (if I can) beat the arcade game. The stuff like ship every item, catch every fish etc. will be the next playthrough.

Caught the final legendary fish. Took me 8 tries, not too hard really. I'm surprised there isn't an achievement for it, though there is for catching every fish in the game.

Finished my second year. Got the positive evaluation (it's easy to get) and the thing you receive for that. I've also completed all the monster slayer goals. A few days into the third year I finally got foraging up to 10, that's all the skills maxed out. You'd have to be fucking diligent to get the largest house size by the end of the second year, you need 150 hardwood and I still have just under 100. I have a theory that

so I'm trying that. I only need 2 fish to complete the community center. I read online that one of them is in some kind of

Show Spoiler

and I feel kinda bad about reading that but I wouldn't have found out any other way. This game has a lot of odd secrets. I still haven't found out what's up with the spa. How the heck does it stay in business? There are some things I'm going to save for another playthrough. The Joja corporation obviously, and some of the achievements. I don't know if I can get every achievement but I definitely want to get closer. Right now I'm at 26/40.

Dr Eggnog Steam says that I've put 108 hours into the game. I read online that one of the hidden achievements is

Show Spoiler

which scares the fuck out of me.

Dr Eggnog I also read that some artifacts are obtained by using the

Show Spoiler

which I probably wouldn\'t have figured out on my own, but that\'s less obscure and more me just being dumb.
