Never been a big Star Ocean guy, but this first English trailer makes this look decent.

Editing … I loved Star Ocean III, but I haven't played the last one. The combat in this one looks good though :)

Editing … The voice acting may actually be tolerable..... Nah, I'm sure they'll still find a way to make me want to cut my ears off during the full game, that is a Star Ocean tradition after all. Jokes aside, I love how the seamless combat looks and at this point I'm hyped enough to avoid any other future updates and spoilers about it, because I like the series enough that I was always going to be getting it day one anyway.

Five minutes of SO5 gameplay footage out of TGS:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HS3-UcVp9II

The game's very seamless. Battles take place on the field, and a lot of the dialogue will not take control away from the player, just like FF15 is doing as well. I'm of two minds on this. There are definitely instances where this can help with the pacing of the game. For example when exploring a dungeon, where you don't want to feel like the action is being interrupted. But on the other hand, I can see myself running in circles and rocking the stick back and forth to make my character all jittery, as I impatiently wait for the dialogue to play out. Or I'd walk the character all the way towards the camera, turned away from the group, with their head awkwardly tilted to the side as you're still supposed to believe they're having a conversation with the group. Or I'd be continuously rotating the camera, as I stumble upon the fact that you can actually see one of the female character's panties if you point it under her skirt (alright, so I wouldn't just "stumble" upon that...)

Yeah... that's exactly what I'd do. And with all that I'm still supposed to take the dialogue seriously. So they'd have to use it sparingly and at the right moments.

There's also no distinction between the active and benched party. All characters are active at all times. Previous gameplay footage have shown a 6-person party, and they've confirmed there would be more than that but haven't said how many. There's space for at least one more character portrait at the bottom of the screen, and this new footage also shows off guest characters, so who knows. Maybe you'll be rolling with 10 people at some point.

And with all that, it's still running at 60fps. Quite a departure from SO3 where they had to drop down to 3 party members as they ran into trouble with the hardware. The graphics could be a bit better, though. It is, after all, being developed for PS3 and ported to PS4.

Holy crudmuffins, for once Square Enix Japan didn't completely screw us over with their teaser sites. Anyone remember "Star Galaxy"? Yeah, ugh...

But it's actually happening now. Their very Star Ocean-like teaser site turned out to be for Star Ocean 5. And it's being developed by tri-Ace, a studio many thought to be dead after they were bought by a mobile company. Coming to PS3 and PS4.

Editing … I played one of the star ocean games on 360. It was pretty mediocre, so why should I be excited for this?

Editing … I guess it's good Tri-Ace will make at least one more big console game, even though Star Ocean 4 was terrible and I'd rather have Valkyrie Profile 3.

Editing … The article has been updated with more information and screenshots, so check it out if you're interested, but in short: The game will now have seamless battles, they're trying to recapture the feel of SO3 (notice the logo is identical), it'll be set between SO2 and SO3, it's being developed for PS3 and ported to PS4, it's about 30% complete, and there could be more games if it does well. Oh, and Gries, you played SO4 which is generally considered to be the black sheep of the series. SO3 is the most beloved, and they claim to be making a concerted effort to capture the same feel. Also, I would've rather had Radiata Stories 2.

Editing … I love all SO games, with 3 being my favorite, so I'm very excited for this one. I also love how they specifically made the logo look exactly like SO3. That's a good sign.

Editing … I really should get back and finish SO4 at some point. I probably didn't appreciate it enough at the time as high-budget home console JRPGs were still plentiful, and SO4 is one of the games that fell by the wayside. I didn't particularly like the story or characters, and I didn't wanna play it unless I was willing to sit down for at least 10 hours so I wouldn't need to keep rebuilding the bonus board to get that 140% EXP boost or whatever. Of course, you'd probably have to sit down for 10 hours regardless, with its crazy massive overworld and dungeons. I really hope they add the ability to save anywhere in SO5.
