Even though I admittedly never watched the Toby McGuire movies and don't know much about the Spider-Man mythos in general, this was an unexpected take on it for me. Tom Holland is so endearing as Spidey--so chipper, so pure. Best Avenger.

This is the greatest Spider-Man movie ever made. Slice of life storytelling, an actual teenage Peter Parker and it doesn't rely on cliche origin storytelling from older superhero movies. They finally got Spider-Man right, without any unnecessary fast forwarding. The dialog is cutesy, Tom Holland does a great job being an adorable youthful Spider-Man. It doesn't have that cardboard campy character portrayal like in the original trilogy and unlike The Amazing Spider-Man movies, it commits to the slice of life style a lot more rather than trying to have its cake and eat it too (both trying to be an Oscorp plotted film and trying to balance high school life, pick one). It has superhero elements sure, but it actually puts A LOT more pressure on trying to balance school and being a superhero way better than any film I've ever seen try to do it. It even has a callback to cool stuff about the first MCU movie, Iron Man 1, having a similar identity reveal ending (BUT IN A FUNNY WAY). Great job. Welcome back home to Marvel, Spidey.

Just saw Spider-Man Homecoming. I didn't dislike it but it was my least favorite Spider-Man yet. I didn't like having such an immature Peter, and I REALLY didn't like his best friend, and a lot of the movie was weirdly dimly lit for such a dumb fun style film. Vulture was cool though, and some of the humor and action worked.

Editing … I didn't like Amazing Spider-Man much at all, but I didn't like Homecoming either. Whereas, say, Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange don't feel like *every other superhero movie,* Homecoming was exactly that, just another generic superhero film. I might have to go with Amazing over Homecoming too.

Editing … new Peter was much more interesting in Civil War, tbh. Not that Andy Garfunkel was great, and now that I'm thinking about them, new boy is definitely a better Peter. Tobey Maguire is still my favorite both in the suit and out, though.

Editing … My preference is Tobey too, but this movie was much better than the travesty of Amazing.

Editing … I liked this Peter much less than the last two. I liked Peter less in Amazing 1 than 1-3 or Amazing 2, but still liked him, and Gwen. My issues with Amazing 1 were the villain and the pacing, that's why it's lower for me, I gave it a 6/10. 1-3 and Amazing 2 I give an 8/10 or higher. The Amazing movies felt much more like "every other superhero movie" to me than Homecoming. Homecoming felt more like a kids cartoon, I actually thought it was kind of weird that it had a PG-13 rating when it was clearly aiming for a Y7 cartoon feel.

Editing … I stopped watching Spiderman for that reason as a teen. I no longer feel that way about it and would happily watch Spiderman media again. Homecoming was the first Spiderman movie that really captured the feel of the character in my mind. I think they made a great choice in making him younger. Tobey is better overall, but I like Homecomings Spiderman better. Even if the Parker persona isn't done as well.

Gwen Stacy? Nope. Mary Jane? Nope. Harry Osborn? Nope. Uncle Ben? Nope. Aunt May? Barely.
Rookie high school Spider-Man who couldn't make his own suit? Check.
Tony Stark as a mentor? Check
Joins the Avengers for pretty much his first adventure? Check
Overweight nerdy Asian best friend/confidante who spends his free time making Lego models? Check

It's a well made film but it's weird how this version of Peter Parker feels closer to the Miles Morales comics.

I just saw the new trailer:
    https://youtu.be/n9DwoQ7HWvI
Looks like they're going all out trying to make Homecoming feel different to the Garfield and Maguire films. Way younger Spidey, resorting to b list villains that haven't been used before, they're using Liz Allen as the love interest because MJ and Gwen have been done and they're making Ganke (Miles Morales' best friend) into Peter's best friend because we've already seen two takes on Harry Osborn.

I was hoping for a near enough straight adaptation of the early Ultimate Spider-Man comics complete with Nick Fury showing up to tie it in to the wider MCU but ah well, this could be good too. As long as they don't go overboard and make Spidey Iron Man's sidekick.

Editing … I only know who Liz Allen is because of The Spectacular Spider-Man. Looks more goofy and quirky but we'll see, hard to judge a movie by its trailer. I remember the trailer for Star Trek 2009 making it look like the worst thing to ever happen ever. Anyway, Vulture looks cool. That thing where Spidey's holding two big things with webs looks too much like the Spider-Man 2 monorail scene. Not liking the kid's voice but maybe I'll get used to it, and hey, he'll grow up. Never did see Iron Man 3, or The Avengers, or really a lot of superhero movies that don't have Spider-Man or Batman in them.

Editing … What, you can't just comment on my post sharing the trailer? Do I cuss too much or something? Joking aside, I like seeing Peter joking around instead of fanboying out like in Civil War. But good grief that trailer is poorly edited. When that bank robber starts swinging at him you shouldn't use a drumming sound effect to signify a dodge, no matter how epixor you think it sounds because it gives the impression that the punches are landing and Spidey is just shrugging it off. The international trailer has the same sequence with a "swish" sound effect which sounds much more appropriate. I like the idea of going for a John Hughes tone. Spectacular Spider-Man is probably my favorite show with a high school setting so hopefully the recapture its brilliance. And holy hell, Holland's been eating his spinach. Hope they don't overplay the physical bullying because Tony Revolori's Flash Thompson would have to be an utter moron to pick a fight with someone with a bulging neck like that. And I can't believe it's only been a year since Civil War because he looks significantly older
