You can swing through the streets of New York catching crims and popping balloons to make the children cry.

It may not be that big of a deal today, but back in the early 2000s large free roam cities were a wonder to behold. For the first time, "does whatever a spider can" turned out to be true in terms of interactivity.There's honestly no way to do the combat and locomotion systems justice because there are waaay too many options.

Nearly everything is interactive, from streetlamps to buoys to building interiors. Outside the endless options for helping local citizens in distress, Double P still has plenty of business to take care of, a flooring portion of which has nothing to do with the story.

Spider-Man 2 is my favorite open world game. It has perhaps the most impressive controls I've ever seen, as you can swing, crawl, charge jump, and more. Practice makes perfect and you improve on the controls as you use them. Some people say that the random missions can get boring, and that's true, but that's far from all there is to do. To me, it's less of an action game and more like an open world platformer. I love completing difficult challenges through practice, and this is one of few games I really like working my fingers to the bone for. For a more relaxing experience, I enjoy collecting the skyscraper tokens, or just swinging around the city and adoring the controls. The graphics are good, and hold up well considering how fast you can go. The music is fitting, the main characters have the movie actors, and the npc voice acting is funny bad. It's a game that's fun to complete more and more of, or just experience, and I think it's better than many more beloved games.

Definitely one of the best open world games I have ever played. It's so fun to swing around New York City as Spiderman!

This is how you make a movie tie in, you take something cool about the premise of the film, loosely follow the narrative, but make your focus on skewing the film into an interesting game idea. The interesting thing about Spiderman is not punching dudes in the face, every video game in the world is about punching dudes in the face. But how many games are about using an unlimited amount of ropes to swing around New York City at high speeds doing hero stuff?

The web swinging in this game is awesome and it is so fun to just swing around doing races that it overshadows the poor channeling of the films plot, clunky fight controls that aren't all that fun, and Toby Maguire showing that if he tries hard enough he can indeed be a worse actor. 5/5

The rest of the game is good fun too but the important thing is that they absolutely nailed the web slinging and they handled the wall crawling pretty well too.
Before the Arkham series came along this was the closest gaming came to doing a super hero justice.
