I like how I don't have to play single player to unlock anything!

Basically, more SC4, except without the jedis but Enzio Auditore instead; the mechanics of combat are mostly untouched, the difference being that now you can preform a special move that can take a good chunk of health from your opponent, however just like in SC4 you are punished for playing too defensibly witch is really unfair, character creation is a sweet feature. Has fans requested, there is a story mode that attempts to add depth to the universe but instead just feels like a fan-fiction written by a 12 year old; characters with unlikable personalities, bad development, awkward writing and terrible dialog just to name a few. SC5 is saved by it's fighting mechanics and core gameplay elements; but still, it could have been much better.

Well, it was better than IV.

I've been a fan of the Soul Calibur series for a long time, despite my enthusiasm dwindling over the course of its' run with underwhelming entries for III and IV. SC V however is a fantastic fighter, and the game to really brings energy back to the series. The mechanics are as good as they have ever been, even the meter works way better than I thought it would. The roster balance feels good and the new characters add good variety to the cast. Which is why it's a shame Namco obviously rushed this game out, with the roster having weird omissions and single player mode being less substantial. I think it's still decent (and the netplay is good) but I can see how it turns off casual fans. Still a damn good fighter and favorite SC since 1.

Beautiful game.... But it lacks something... in fact, it lacks a lot of things compared to SoulCalibur II.

On one hand, the character customization is fantastic and addicting and the combat itself is very fast-paced and refined. On the other, there were so many unnecessary exclusions on the roster, there is a complete lack of extensive Single-Player content for which the series is known, and with Guard Breaking, SoulCalibur once again caters to aggressive players while punishing defensive ones. First big disappointment of 2012.
