So I was watching the CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals and I then I realized that I have no idea how these tournaments work.

I mean, the U.S. won the Gold Cup. That's cool. But that has nothing to do with the men's Olympic soccer competition that's going on, because the team had to win in the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament or something? I suppose it's as redundant as having some drivers competing in the CART and others in the F1 Series.

    Whatever. Sports.

Editing … I instantly know both those moments. Beckham got sent off in the previous world cup ruining England's chances, for a while he was the most hated man in England. You can actually see the relief on his face that he made amends with that goal. And Man city's first title, wow. I remember watching the man Utd players celebrating on the pitch then Aguero scored that goal in the last few seconds. Joey Barton got sent off for QPR too.

By the way, I was once a fullback on the #2 team for AYSO in my local division. We were The Fury. Not the Fatal Fury, because that didn't sit well with the moms. Sadly, we didn't say "Are you okay?" and "Bustah wolf" all the time.

I mean, yeah, I like watching it. But it's not as if any of the f***ing Americans really understand the damned sport. I'm stuck watching the L.A. Galaxy dominate U.S. soccer every three or four years. And then they play Mexico and they totally suck. But hey, maybe one day they'll figure out a winning strategy and they'll actually win that f***ing World Cup. End rant.

So with the world cup going on im thinking about going to see a game(MLS) because i've never watch one in real life. I see that my local team is going to play a friendly with Eintracht Frankfurt next month im wondering would i be better off watching a regular season MLS game or see the friendly game?

Im thinking this friendly game might be like a pre season game like in our other sports where they don't play as hard because its just a exhibition game that doesn't matter so why risk getting hurt for either team?

A world cup with 48 teams? Seriously Infantino this is turd. Why should i look for a tournament then Germany literally plays against countries like Togo, Cuba and Cambodia?

Editing … On the other hand it's ridiculous that countries like India, Tanzania, Kenya, Thailand and Vietnam have never sent a team to the World Cup because their continents are only allowed to send a third as many teams as the Europeans are.

Editing … This isn't about which continent has better teams. FIFA allocates Europe 13 places at the World Cup before the first qualifying match kicks off. There'll be 13 European countries at the World Cup Finals no matter how good or bad European teams are. Meanwhile Africa is only allocated 5 places at the World Cup Finals and no matter how fantastically African teams play in the qualifiers there'll only be a maximum of 5 African teams in the finals.

Editing … Asia and South America are only guaranteed 4 places each, CONCACAF (North America, Central America and the Carribean) are only guaranteed 3 places and Oceania isn't guaranteed a place at all. Teams from Oceania, CONCACAF, South America and Asia get to compete for two extra places that aren't allocated to a specific continent. Again, no matter how good the teams are those continents won't be getting to send half as many teams to the World Cup Finals as Europe does.

Editing … I am aware of that quota thanks, after following the wc since 1986. My points are others as FIFA is only goaling to get more money. They have made no thoughts about the effects of these changes. Like how many countries will be able to host such a world cup...

Editing … "Is it Europe's fault to have better teams then?" seemed to imply you think Europe earns its 13 places rather than just being guaranteed them by FIFA before anyone kicks a ball. It's meant to be a World Cup but our continent's guaranteed more places than 4 other continents put together, it's daft.

Editing … One solution would be a larger World Cup Finals with the new places allowing other continents to send more teams. A better one would just be taking places off Europe and allocating them to other continents. Personally I'd just favour guaranteeing less places to specific continents and having more inter-continental qualifiers.

Editing … Would like to see more intercontinental too, screw the regions. Start in phase one with all 230? countries to reduce them in playoffs to 128 and then 64. Phase two as a group with 16 a 4 and phase three the now abolished wc of 32 system. But no one cares about that...

Editing … To be fair it's hard to get excited about the details of reforming quotas and qualifiers when the next two World Cups are being hosted by dictatorships who got that right through bribery and so far FIFA's reforms only amount to papering over the cracks.
