Just bought the PS3 collection that has the first three Sly games. Quickly knocked out this one in a few days. Charming art direction and no real filler just quick platforming action. I had it as a kid but I think I spent more time pickpocketing baddies in Sly 2 than playing this one. Some of the mini games and boss battles feel a tad annoying. The extra abilities are pretty useless. Overall a solid game for a PS2 era platformer. Onto Sly 2.

Sly Cooper is an enjoyable 3D platformer. The controls are smooth and easy to handle and feel cool. The graphics have a nice cel shaded style and the scenes are charming. There's also cool SLO-MO JUMPS!!! The bosses are a lot of fun as well. There's too many mini-games though.

The thing I love about this game is how little filler this game has. Unlike other 3D platformers the collecting and exploration elements are kept pretty low key, supporting the simple joys of running, jumping, and climbing. It takes advantage of feeling like a full 3D world but keeps level design fairly straightforward, sticking close to the genre's 2D roots, which is what I adore this game for. Add a very attractive world, very well done humor (which isn't afraid to be low key in the delivery of some of its jokes) and some surprisingly well done voice work (boss characters being the best) and you have a classic platformer. It is true that the game is a tad easy and on the short side, but every moment is so good you won't mind one bit.

It's a very fun game. Seems very easy at times but can be deceptively difficult at others, though the penalty for death is so low it doesn't really matter. I'd say it's worse than the first Ratchet & Clank but still a great platformer and a lot of fun. The variety of moves is kind of worthless, as many are completely unnecessary. The story is fun with good characters and an OK plot. The graphical style is pretty cool as well.
