Silent Hill: Origins, known as Silent Hill Zero (Japanese: サイレントヒル ゼロ, Hepburn: Sairentohiru Zero?) in Japan, is a survival horror video game for the PlayStation Portable developed by Climax Studios. It was published by Konami Digital Entertainment worldwide in late 2007, beginning in late October with the United Kingdom. A port for the PlayStation 2 was released worldwide in early 2008, beginning in March with North America, and it is available on the PlayStation Network in Europe and the United Kingdom. The fifth installment in the Silent Hill series, Origins is a prequel to the first game (1999). Set in the series' eponymous, fictional American town, Origins follows trucker Travis Grady as he searches for information about a girl whom he rescued from a fire.     It just hit me that this is the first portable game I ever owned. I was thirteen. I can still remember thinking that the cases for the little discs were really cool.

    Origins keeps it's Silent Hill formula intact, for the most part...
    The story is pretty much self explanatory thanks to it's title, but it does a good job has a prequel non the less; gameplay will be consider wacky for most standers, the blows hit their target but their is no feel to it, puzzles are there but not remotely has in SH3 or Homecoming; presentation is good if you are ok with low res textures. If you are looking to dive into the franchise storyline, I recommend this one to see what is Silent Hill all about.

    Silent Hill: Origins brought back the classic survival horror style gameplay of searching buildings, finding keys, and solving weird puzzles, and did it pretty well, with a mechanic of using mirrors to switch to the Otherworld and back. There's a lot of good, clever level design here. The origins part of the story is mostly dumb, but Travis' personal story is well handled. The controls are clunky, but combat can still be fun. The graphics are impressive for the PSP and the soundtrack is good.
