It's as if Capcom realized what was wrong with Resident Evil games since 2005 but were already committed to RE6, so they put the worthy successor of Resident Evil 4 on the 3DS instead. Though not a "true horror experience," this is the same kind of mix of action and horror elements that made RE4 worth playing for anybody above a certain age (there is still plenty of blood). There are flaws with the campaign's storytelling and pacing at points, but story was never a series forte. Also, "Mission Mode" is an intense series of action stages that will double your playtime, and would be buying on their own. The two being part of a single whole sweetens the deal.

It's been a while since I played a traditional Resident Evil ,believe it or not, Revelations is more of a true successor to RE4 than RE5; it seems like the capcom guys haven't forgot what the franchise was before RE4 came along. The design is more based on exploration and strategic approach to enemies rather than "straight up" action and linearity; saving ammunition is crucial to stay alive, because monsters don't drop ammo when killed anymore. Though it tries to be scary; is just not, even less when played in a handheld. The story is very smart and clever, but I just hate it's militaristic undertone, events that makes me scratch my head and think "why", loose ends and some of the new characters are just forgettable.

It's quite short and can be beat in a day if you're prepared to spend the full day playing, but that's the only bad thing about this game. It's more like RE4, and after the crap that was RE6 this feels much better. There's not one QTE and plenty of variety in gameplay, the story is good too. If you like RE4 then this definitely won't disappoint.
