Refried beans (Spanish: frijoles refritos) is a dish of cooked and mashed beans, and is a traditional staple of Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine. Pinto beans are often used, but many other varieties of bean are used, such as black or red beans. The name of the dish is the result of a mistranslation. Frijoles refritos means "well-fried beans", not "refried beans". Furthermore, the beans may instead be baked.
