I beat this game for the third time. It hasn't gotten old quite yet...

Dunno why, but I still play this game. It's got plenty of secret passages, lots of weapons that are actually useful, and...uh...It's got Cheech and Chong. I mean, Ratchet and Clank. And...I guess he lasted longer than Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Spyro and Crash? Dunno how it turned out that way, but hey, this was my first PS2 game. It was part of a packaged deal. It made my day.

The impressive scale and variety of Ratchet & Clank often help to mask the wobbly gameplay foundations it has been built on. However, once the occasionally poor level design and/or shoddy combination of enemy types, combined with poor checkpoint system, enter into play, all gameplay flaws become apparent.
Pros: Plenty of variety in gameplay, weapons, scenery and enemy types, for the most part good level design, solid platforming and melee combat, collecting bolts is just satisfying, occasionally humorous, impressive backdrops, a number of optional sidequests, Clank is a great sidekick
Cons: Camera and aiming is really bad, some terrible design decisions and sparse checkpoints can lead to aggravating situations, a lot of buttons are bizarrely unused, slight control issues, Ratchet is annoying in his first outing, forgettable music, up until the very end of the game you have to be extremely close to the bolts and ammo in order to collect them, switching weapons doesn’t stop the action

This is a fun, cinematic 3D adventure that added in an unusuall assortment of guns. I love all the geeky science fiction technology and the cartoon storyline. I just wish that the last level wasn't so hard.

When I saw the advertising for this game, I thought it was going to be some overcomplicated boring shooter. Imagine my surprise when I tried it and it was a 3D platformer! Ratchet and Clank has great smooth controls that work beautifully, really likable and well done graphics and music, and a story that's both funny and occasionally dramatic. The levels are linear but well paced and designed, and hold plenty of secrets, and the weapons are a ton of fun to use. This is just an outstandingly entertaining game. I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't like it.

Awesome game. Weapons are great, characters are cool and funny, and the story is okay. Just a load of fun, and the start of a great series. Actually my first ps2 game, and probably started the only ps2 series that I played that was actually great, as I missed out on a lot of great ps2 games. Not as good as the following two games, but still great.
