This game is probably shitty in most people's opinions, but it was my first introduction in the RPG genre and hence, since I loved the console and I thought the combat was interesting comapred to what I was used to, I really enjoyed it. I like the different elements being mapped to the C Keys. I could probably see why it was rated bad if I go back and play it now, but other than having a bad controller and a bad memory card when I first rented, my experience was good.

While looking through my N64 library the other day, I remembered one game that I played that wasn't in my collection, that game was Quest 64... Back then I just couldn't understand it, maybe because I was too young or just because it wasn't too fun to play; I don't remember getting to far after just a couple of hours of gameplay. Can't say now, I'm saying what I remember about the game, haven't played it recently; but it holds the record for being one of the low points of the N64 lifespan...

It's a curse. Once you start the game, the music will stuck in your head for the eternity! (Also it's a lame game)

Quest 64 is one of the games that is held up as an example of the N64's poor RPG library. Very simple design to the point it misses much of what makes RPGs appealing in the first place. That said it does do a few things right. You do feel like you are on a long journey through the game and I liked the colorful world as a kid. Not unplayable but pretty lacking in a lot of departments. Still as one of my first RPGs and games I owned for my first current system it has a certain nostalgic value for me. :)

Quest 64 was a simple RPG – with just as simple graphics. It wasn't capable of pulling much out of the admittedly low technical specifications of the N64 and as a result it portrayed a quite boring environment with few details, sprite-trees and Mickey-Mouse-colors. A landscape that was – even for its time – not beautiful. The battle system was very simple as well with its wooden mace for melee combat and four-elemental-magic – although such a simple system can be fun, too. But even the characters were shallow and if there was a good story hidden after a few more gameplay hours then I couldn't find it as I was too disappointed too soon. If you think this is a nice RPG for beginners, let me tell you: it will scare them away from the genre altogether.
