Oh man. My first handheld Nintendo game ever. This is easily the best world of Pokemon to explore and experience.

The music is pretty nice too

Pokemon Gold/Silver were great games and, their remakes are absolutely masterful. This is essentially the same core game as the original titles, you are a young boy or girl who is embarking on their quest to be a Pokemon Master in the Johto Region. After beating the Elite Four, you get to travel the Kanto region, earning those gym badges and eventually battling the Pokemon Master who beat the Champion Blue years previously. These titles use include every Pokemon from the first four generations, online battling and trading (no longer active) and, greatly updated artwork. This is also one of the few titles wherein your lead Pokemon follows behind your trainer which was cute and, endearing.

The ability to go in 2 Locations in one Pokemon Game, is an extra Reason why you should play this Game instead of the first one.

The best sequel ever. G/S expanded on the original by adding Special Attack and Defense to a Pokémon's stats, introducing happiness levels and breeding, and implementing the EV training system and Shiny mechanic. But G/S did more than innovate, it packed in the Kanto region and its gym leaders to double the playtime! My only complaint is that they didn't keep this in the sequels to follow. Add in an outstanding soundtrack, two new types, and one of the greatest boss battles in the medium (the final battle against the ridiculously badass Red), and G/S has the essentials to be heralded as the greatest Pokémon game ever (and trust me, that's quite a feat).

The first Pokémon game I ever beat. Soulsilver is a big adventure with a world that's fun to explore. The graphics and music are solid. The Pokémon themselves are a lot of fun to collect and pick out favorites from, and they learn a lot of great and clever abilities. I like building up a good party. The game's challenge level is sometimes quite high, and it's also very long and packed with content. Also, the battles themselves require real thought and strategy. However, it can all get a bit tedious, especially when HMs and dull dungeons are combined.

    *Review of Heart Gold/Soul Silver*

Never played the original, so with this I finally found out why pokefans get all nostalgic about this generation. Honestly, after so many pokemon games I didn't find this one particularly special. The idea of two whole regions is cool, except they are both so small and truncated compared to the other games it's actually less satisfying to conquer. But mechanically it has all the refinements to make them among the best when the remakes came out.

Best Pokemon generation. Having two regions in one game is why it's the best. The only thing better in its predecessor were the starters, of course.
