N appears as a recurring character in the Pokémon anime. He is a mysterious young man with the ability to understand what Pokémon are saying. He is an anti-villain, being the primary antagonist, yet a good natured person who sees Pokémon as his friends and is generally rather amicable toward the player as well. According to Concordia, "N's heart is pure and innocent."

    For a while, Pokemon rivals were getting worse and worse. G1 had Blue/Gary Fr*king Oak, G2 had the interesting tale of Silver, G3 started with one rival before switching to Wally, and I can't remember what G4's rival was named.

    G5 had two other "rival" characters, who were already a step in the right direction, but N takes the cake for all Rival characters in the series to date. Both in terms of story and gameplay, he is a twisted mirror of the protagonist. He has great intentions, but his view of reality was incompatible with the world around him. Paradoxically, his teams of Pokemon always came from the local area, as if he refused to take them far from their homes. And his final battle is among the best in any RPG, serving to both defy expectations and fulfill the desires of players.
