Is anyone else tired of this new trend towards multiversal story-telling? Maybe it's the nihilist in me, but I feel that if every possible outcome is equally likely and unlikely, then there is no consequence to anything, and therefore no conclusion. And I HATE narratives that don't have a conclusion. Stories without consequence are just a list of events. Back in my day, we called stories like that 'filler'. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to create an entire genre out of exclusively filler narratives. Well, that's not exactly true. I can understand why executives and shareholders would, but surely I'm not alone in feeling that multiverse stories are a step back for story-telling?

Editing … I'm tired of its prominence right now, but I don't share your feelings about the stories not mattering. But I also like narratives without a conclusion.

Editing … I reckon it will fizzle out, but part of me fears it's here to stay. I'm pretty okay with them when they function as vehicles for fan-service. I just don't like when it's used to undo things that have happened, or to abandon a narrative thread. Verging on "it was all a dream" , which I detest even more.

Editing … Did Aquaman 2 do any multiverse stuff to lead into the new DCU?

Editing … Nah. As far as I know, they are just going to have a complete reboot into the DCU and not mention the previous films. Peacemaker might, as it seems the most tied-in, but I doubt Superman will even bring it up.

Editing … I read that Peacemaker S2 will be set in the DCU, and I guess we'll find out how S1 is connected to S2. I thought Disney+ would never release a Marvel show as good as Peacemaker, but Loki S2 was amazing.

Editing … Yea, everything going forward is now DCU and therefore post-reboot. I enjoyed Loki. Tis a shame about the whole Jonathan Majors shenanigans. His characterisation of He Who Remains was great.

Editing … Also Quiet Player, what's a better list, favorite superhero movies (and one for shows), or favorite live-action superhero movies/shows? I wanna stack MCU, DC, and X-Men movies against each other :)

Editing … Live-action would make most sense. Superhero movies is a mammoth list. Individual lists for live-action, and animated would make for an easier time for everyone I think.

Went to see Evil Dead 4......oops, I meant 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'. It was a visual feast, and has a lot to like if you are a Sam Raimi fan. But it has such weak writing and I found the pantomime-villainy pretty boring. I get the impression that the cohesive nature of the MCU is beginning to come apart.

I finished DC's 'Multiversity'.....hmm, well that was....yea. 448 pages and not a single conclusion among them. A quick Google search revealed why I found it so jarring. There is never actually any resolution to any of the issues that the heroes face. Apparently it was envisoned as a bunch of "starting points" for new stories. So essentially I just read a bunch of chapter 1's glued together. Wish I had known that before starting. Oops.

Started reading DC's "Multiversity". Oh god, what have I gotten myself into. I thought it would be a cool story that takes place across multiple universes. Nope, seems to be an ultra-meta plot spanning across past, present and future timelines, that can change era, planet and universe in the space of a single panel, wholly without warning. It's like someone took a comic, scrambled all the pages and then glued it back together. And yet, I can't stop reading it. I don't really know why. Send help.
