So much this. I just finished the first hour and that's definitively a huge improvement over the predecessor, I almost cried already. Everything is better, graphics, sound, story. All the characters, even the minors one, have personality this time. And the writers did not try to be funny, unlike Earthbound, which I don't think is even close to being funny. Now I'm excited.

Mother 3 is one of the best games ever made. There is little about it that can be improved, either by more intelligent design or by using more advanced hardware.

The story, featuring a cast of characters that will not be forgotten, combines some of the most extreme emotions from across the spectrum. The game's mechanics and design seem a bit short of revolutionary at a glance, but ultimately serve the game's central themes while providing more than enough depth. The visuals are too beautiful for simpler hardware, but the GBA's limitations also are crucial, with the lack of 3D graphics or high resolution keeping with the purpose of the visual design. The soundtrack is one of the best in medium history, with hours of songs that share common motifs while covering distinct styles.

This game came out in 2006, long after the DS was launched. In a way, this was for the better. The GBA needed no more games after this.

Ya know, the gameplay of this game isn't exactly revolutionary: But MAN, does story carry this game so much. I love it, it's one of the most original and heartstring-pulling stories out there. It deals with hardships of a kid, (probably why it's called Mother, it's an ironic title, because that's what these games tend to throw away), something that video games today seem to be afraid to touch. When you're a kid it's tough to deal with these hardships and no video games seem to be relatable in that aspect. It's not all sadness though, there's some cool pop culture and hip stuff in this game, making it a perfect balance for your psyche. Did I mention it also has an AMAZING soundtrack!? Goodness greatious, best GBA game ever.
