Hey fellas, have you ever played a game, only to be annoyed by the presence of a minimap? Sometimes it just doesn't feel appropriate.
Since the site's been so dead, maybe you can engage yourself by posting some such games down below.

Editing … Honestly I rarely like them... when you don't have one you're forced to actually look at your surroundings. They're convenient but I hate the fact that I spend 25% of the game focusing on the bottom right corner of the screen. I really hate when they put enemies on there, I played some horror game with that feature a little while back and it was basically a joke, there wasn't an ounce of suspense, I could see every bad guy in the area.

Editing … The only time a minimap has ever been scary is Sinistar, because you see this giant blob coming at you on your radar and you're like holy shit what the fuck is that thing.

Editing … I visit daily, I just don't post a reply on everything. And minimaps don't bother me, they're helpful to me especially in RPGs.

Editing … Minimaps are useful when games are designed poorly.

Editing … I don't think that's necessarily true. In the case of an urban game, like the various crime sandboxes, I'd argue that they're wonderful for navigation. In non-urban games, I know I prefer a compass over anything else. I'd love if I could replace The Witcher 3's minimap with a #Compass Bar. edit2019: eh maybe it's true

Editing … I think the opposite, urban games definitely shouldn't need a minimap. Rockstar does a really good job at familiarizing the player with the map enough that they're able to get around after playing a quarter of the game or so. I think the real problem is when designers want to make a game based on an existing city. Most cities suck in terms of road infrastructure because they were haphazardly pieced together over a decade, games have that opportunity to make a city that isn't dumb transportation wise.
