Looking to replay 2033, and then play Last Light for the first time. Original or Redux? Original looks more atmospheric. Redux has first-person player shadows. Also other stuff. Does anyone here have feelings on both versions?

Editing … Redux would probably be better at this point, because the polygons are a little smoother. However, neither looks as bad as Red Faction 1. Again, I don't know how I got that far in that game, because...bleh.

Editing … I also keep forgetting to finish Metro 2033. I kept getting distracted by Ms. Pac-Man on PC...

Editing … ORIGINAL, if only for the much better voice acting. I like the more diegetic UI elements in the original as well. I really hope Metro: Exodus manages to hit the same emotional tenor of the original because Last Light and everything after just haven't felt the same.

Editing … I love the original Russian voice track, just for the fact it makes everything much more like...a Russian apocalypse? Anyways, it made everything much more real. I thought that the new version would improve everything, though. Bummer.

Editing … Now I dunno whether to play the Redux or original when I get to Last Light. Or was that answer for both?

Editing … Do you already own the games or are you buying off the grey market? Because unless you're getting the console version you can't even get the original versions on digital storefronts. Anyway I never finished Last Light or played the redux, but I don't think it's as stark a difference. Only a year passed between Last Light and Redux vs the four that passed between 2033 and Redux, so I'm pretty sure they kept the same VO, and the visual differences are more subtle. Last Light Redux does include all the DLC though, including Ranger mode which was considered a glaring omission from the base game, so that might be the way to go.

Editing … How weird. I bought the Steam version two or three years ago. And now it disappeared from the storefront. I have it in my downloads though. Hmph.

I really should stop playing shoot-at-people-with-guns games. The odds I don't like it are astronomical. I do get why people are lyrical about it. The atmosphere of the game does feel oppressive and dark and desperate. It's just not my cuppa tea. The thing I did like was that I got this for free!
