I didn't think that anyone would recognize this game because it's so damned hard to find. Yay for Punching Weight.

Anyways, my big brother found MGS: Ghost Babel at one point (against all odds). I was always afraid that the game would lose my data, because this has a primitive battery-backup system. Seriously, I kept losing my saves for my Bionic Commando cart. It wasn't fun. It's probably safer to just emulate it anyway.

Hideo Kojima and Shinta Nojiri somehow crammed in a four-hour Metal Gear Solid side story into a Game Boy Color cartridge. The game is rare as hell, but I thought it had one of the best scripts of all time. Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel also has an incredible soundtrack that cranked the full potential of the tiny Game Boy Sound System with ambient atmospheric tracks, as well as music when guards discover Snake. The graphics are primitive, but man, every part of this is a hell of lot better than the original games for the MSX.

I never realised that #Metal Gear Solid (GBC) isn't actually a port of the PS1 classic, but a full fledged spin off title instead. Konami should've just published it as "MGS: Ghost Babel" like they did in Japan in order to avoid any confusion.

Editing … paging @Explojin for confirmation. It's definitely not a remake of Metal Gear SOLID 1 for the PS1. When I played it the other day it reminded me of the first Metal Gear which came out on NES, but the story seems to be completely different. You're playing Solid Snake and not Big Boss in this one

Editing … Well the Game Boy Color version was hard enough to find in stores, so that's why it has the full Metal Gear Solid name. For recognition. My big brother had to scrounge around for it. The sales numbers were low outside of Japan, probably because people didn't think it would turn out as good as the PS1 game. It also came out near the absolute end of the Game Boy's run as a portable console.
