Marvel Comics
Marvel Worldwide, Inc., commonly referred to as Marvel Comics and formerly Marvel Publishing, Inc. and Marvel Comics Group, is an American publisher of comic books and related media. In 2009, The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel Entertainment, Marvel Worldwide's parent company. Marvel started in 1939 as Timely Publications, and by the early 1950s had generally become known as Atlas Comics. Marvel's modern incarnation dates from 1961, the year that the company launched The Fantastic Four and other superhero titles created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and many others. Marvel counts among its characters such well-known properties as Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Captain America, the Silver Surfer, and the Avengers and antagonists such as the Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Magneto, Doctor Doom, Loki, Galactus, Thanos, and the Red Skull. Saved! In the latest fully-readable Marvel Comics Event, Empyre, the Avengers and the Fantastic Four gather their forces against a third party in the Kree/Skrull never-ending rivalry, the Cotati. In their origin story, they were peacefully living in Hala with the Kree until the Skrulls found their planet and offered for an alliance with the one who could bring them more in a short amount of time. The Kree built a techonological city with big towers while the Cotati grew a wonderful garden and won. Displeased, the Kree destroyed the peaceful Cotati and conquered Hala. The last remnants of the Cotati species grew with hatred in their hearts and found in their last son born from Mantis, a Cotati hybrid, and the Swordsman, a human once Avenger, the perfect Messiah. Gathering their strengths, they decide after the last peace treaty between the Kree et the Skrulls from the hand of their new emperor, Hulkling (born half-kree, half-skrull), to meet with the humans to avenge the death of their own and thus, start the Empyre storyline.
On paper it seems great, packed with action and a relevant storyline, but in the lines, the psychological side and the characters lose interest in profit of the background story. It felt like watching a great trailer while the movie lacks in depth and intensity. I was expecting a lot from this event, especially from Hulkling since he appeared in one of the first books I read from the Marvel Universe (Young Avengers #1 in 2005), but except for one moment (rushed and hesitant), he was poorly displayed. I may read some of the side-issues but it won't be a priority.-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Nothing worse than when a good premise is squandered. The waste of potential is somehow worse than if there was no promise from the outset.
-
Saved!Sha EmberEditing … True. Everytime there's an event, dc and marvel both advertise a lot about them. I instantly loved the drawings and expected a lot from the scenario but the only great moment they showed was its beginning. The rest wasn't even bad, but every issue failed to meet my expectations. Or maybe I'm more demanding than I was before!
-
Saved!Silent GamerEditing … Sadly it gets harder to be impressed the more it happens!
-
Saved!JackinatorEditing … I only read good superhero comics like Immortal Hulk and Hickman's X-Men so it's weird when people say things like "modern Marvel comics are terrible" because I pay no attention to bad comics and forget they exist.
-
Saved!Sha EmberEditing … Yeah I should do the same as you, Jack. I really love Hickman's X-Men. House of X was the first TPB I gave a 10/10 in my whole collection. ^^

Saved!Call me a fanboy, but every marvel movie so far has been nothing but cheesy, clichéd dreck.
DC fo' lyfe. -
Saved! Please recommend me one 'must see' movie from marvel that I can watch without any prior knowledge of the source material. Tia
-
Saved!Rich .Editing … I'd say it's between Avengers and Winter Soldier for the best Marvel film but they're both sequels so I guess I'll agree with Husky and say Guardians of the Galaxy.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … You could watch the entire Cinematic Universe, doesn't really require knowledge of the comics.
-
Saved!Husky WingEditing … Ten are released, ten more are confirmed for release (two coming this year)
-
Saved!Sha EmberEditing … I agree with Husky. Leya started to watch the movies without any knowledge of the Marvel Universe! ;)
-
Saved!Gries HeEditing … I found a good deal for Thor 1, The Avengers and Iron Man 1-3 ond Blu-ray, I'll get Guardians and Cpt America once they're a bit cheaper (and if those other Marvel movies don't turn out to be complete and utter shite).
-
Saved!HarrasedaEditing … You need to watch the order you watch them though. Iron Man 3 is set after Avengers, and with Iron Man 1 & 2, Thor 1, The Incredible Hulk and Captain America 1 before it.
-
Saved! It seems like Marvel has something special in store for their 75th anniversary!
-
Saved!Guys, guys... There was no Marvel Comics page till now.
I'm disappoint.
