The guy could have just dropped out early and ran again in four years. He's young, he could have learned from this experience and come back stronger. But he decided to stay in a losing game at the expense of his own future political prospects. I would have never voted for the guy but it blows my mind. The way he was being groomed and hyped, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before the guy became the GOP nominee. Probably not in this election but down the road clearly. It was set in stone, he was the chosen one. He was supposed to be the Republican answer to Obama, a young superstar, the future of the party. But now the Rubio ride is officially over. It's never, ever going to happen. He'll be lucky if his political career even continues in Florida, after tonight and all the bridges he burned. Just wow.

Editing … It's been a really fascinating election all in all. It so perfectly tells the story of the GOP's crisis as a fractured, divided party that I almost feel it must be scripted.

Editing … I'm not sure if it's entirely over for Rubio. Political history is full of unexpected comebacks (Nixon's career was declared finished after his failed run for Gov in 62, and I think not many expected Reagan to try again after 76). If Rubio re-establishes himself, perhaps as majority leader (or minority leader, either way) at some point, I see no reason for him not to try again. Not that I'm a fan of his or anything, but the way he was basically destroyed by Trump has been bitter to watch.

Editing … If Rubio runs again, it will have to be after at least a decade. And during that time I'm certain that the Republicans will find another golden boy. I was sure he was going to be the president of the USA at some point, but I don't think so anymore.

Editing … At this point if the Republican party outright collapses I wouldn't really mind. They're probably going to endure this though so here's hoping against hope the GOP accepts they're on the wrong side of a lot of arguments, remember that they actually used to be the progressive ones back when they abolished slavery and then try to be that kind of Republican party again. Rubio's not the man for that, he might have been better than Trump, Cruz, Carson, Huckabee etc but I'm still okay with never hearing about him again.
