I've never cared for Superman, so my first thought after watching MoS was "Finally, a Superman movie that thoroughly entertained me".

As far as stupid superhero movies go, this is among the least stupid ones.
Once again I'd like to point out that I enjoy DC/Warner's stuff way more than anything Marvel ever made.

Editing … I'd say Man of Steel's in the same league as the weakest MCU films. I like things about it (mainly the music and the spectacle) but I don't think it's better than most Marvel films, too many things bug me about it.

Editing … I rated it 6/10, most Batman movies are 8/10s in my book, every marvel movie I've seen is like a 2/10 at most

Editing … I'd give Avengers 1, Guardians of the Galaxy and Winter Solider something like 8/10, about the same as I'd give Batman Begins, more than I'd give Dark Knight Rises and way more than I'd give the 90s Batman films. Man of Steel's a 5 or a 6/10 for me as well, which is about what I'd give Cap 1, Thor 1 & 2 and Iron Man 2. I'd give Iron Man 3 and Ant Man less.

Editing … I hated Man of Steel and am baffled how anyone could think it's better than any of Marvel's movies. The movie is so serious that it's off-putting, everything is washed out and dreary, Clark Kent/Superman gets practically no development, and it fundamentally contradicts Superman's character. This is one of two superhero movies that I left the theater angry, the other being Fantastic Four (the newer one).

Editing … For me it definitely beats Iron Man 3. Man of Steel had the awesome Hans Zimmer soundtrack and some really great spectacle. It messed up with writing that's average to poor and there are some annoying plot holes but on balance nothing about it bugged me as much as Iron Man 3's mistakes did and there were parts of it I enjoyed. It's better than Ant Man as well, I just don't like the premise for that one.

Editing … Say what you will about the rest of the movie, those first 15 minutes on Krypton are awesome. I almost want a Krypton prequel more than another Superman story.

Editing … Man of Steel is flawed but they don't bug me too much. Granted that's partly because I don't give a crap about Superman to begin with, so I don't have any preconceived ideas of what Superman is supposed to be.

Editing … I actually thought the Krypton section was one of the worst parts. They know the planet's collapsing but they take the time to have a failed coup, a trial and then the only people they evacuate are the leaders of that failed coup in what's got to be the least punishing punishment in cinematic history. Meanwhile there's a conveniently timed birth that defies the eugenics/artificial breeding thing that unnecessarily complicates the plot, there's suggestions that they gave up on their space programme as though that's why they can't evacuate (you'd think a species that becomes godlike under a yellow sun would be into space travel) but as I say they evacuated Zod and his minions so that's obviously not the deal. They just nonsensically all wait around to die when clearly at least some of them including Superman's mum could've been evacuated the same way Zod and his friends were (ideally instead of Zod and his friends). Oh and Jor El sends a digital copy of himself with his son but not one of his wife.

I actually really enjoyed this film, which surprised me as: a) I hate origin stories b)I'm not a huge fan of Superman's character. While this still had the origin sequences, thankfully they were less drawn out than I expected. As for Superman himself, he is given a different take in this movie, and it was a move I greatly appreciated. The character felt more human, less sure of himself and still trying to find his feet in the world. A couple of story decisions were a little cliched, but it seemed to fit with the new character. The cgi in this movie is nothing short of breath-taking, and it really shows you how far animated effects have come. The last fight especially is given the grand scale fitting of such a brawl and you get a clear sense of just how powerful these characters are. In fact, the powers of the Kryptonians are expressed well throughout the film and it was always entertaining to see them in action. Great, explosive fun. The kind of thing I want from a comic book movie. :)

Editing … Isn't the last fight like 40 minutes long or something? I seem to remember it getting silly.

The first half is actually rather good (no doubt helped by Christopher Nolan's involvement), certainly better than I expected, while unfortunately the second half is just Zack Snyder doing what he usually does... lots of BANG POW BANG BOOM EXPLOSION BOOM without actually making you care about what's happening to the people onscreen or giving you any real emotional involvement (some achievement considering the threat Superman is dealing with). It's basically Sucker Punch with A-Levels. Oh, a positive worth mentioning is Michael Shannon's performance, an actor who also impressed me in Take Shelter and who is certainly a name to watch out for.
