My mp3 player caps out at 2000 songs per database (internal and external). THIS IS DUMB. I want a new one. Small, with tactile buttons and a display. And obviously a higher database cap. And FLAC support.

I'm really bothered that mp3 has lived for so long. Why isn't lossless the standard yet? Hasn't this format been long outdated? Even streaming music sounds better than an officially sold 320kbps mp3--the exact opposite of how it should be. The offline product should be the cleanest there is. If an mkv has a lower bitrate than Netflix, then it's doing its job wrong. This lossy music compression is sheer cancer, we simply need lossless to become standard; for our ears, if not for our heads.

Editing … Because most music isn't sold as WAVs. I can only listen to what's provided. If I could listen to everything in Flac or WAV, then I would. As far as I can tell, even Amazon doesn't offer anything but MP3. As for MP3 Players not supporting it--to me this sounds like arguing against going for CD because some radios only support tape.

Editing … I've got 8+ minute Flacs at only ~50MB, a size that we should be embracing today. In 2005, when MP3 should've been succeeded, a 150GB hard drive was frivolous. Today, 2TB is garden variety. Our thumb sticks can hold more music than a desktop could a decade ago. Our video games are growing, our movies are growing, and our music shouldn't be the one thing left in the dust.

Editing … I could stand just a small jump to AAC, I mean, the difference between it and MP3 is still pretty stark. And I mean, YouTube and iTunes already use it, why not? It's still lossy compression, but at least it's not utterly disgusting.

@Waluigifan ! I'm trying to find a 320kbps mp3 of the song LA Devotee by Panic! At the Disco, but every single one I've found has been almost sickening to listen to. The music video and the "topic" channel are by far the cleanest places to listen to the song, but I'd like to have an mp3 that, like, doesn't hurt to listen to (and I mean, I'd prefer a flac to that. I generally just like to have both if I can). Know where I can find a sick 320kbps mp3 of it?

Editing … Thanks, but these seem to be similar quality to what I've already found. One of them might be the best so far, though. But then I open the YouTube music video for a listen, and suddenly the difference in quality is clear. Maybe every mp3 in circulation is a re-encoding of a re-encoding of a re-encoding :p

I installed a FLAC codec so Windows Explorer would be able to edit their ID3 tags.

Are there any high-bitrate formats that support ID3 tagging? I've seen flacs with tags, but no fields to edit them.
It's annoying to have to scour the web for a high quality .flac or .wav, something to beat the 320kbps-maximum bitrate of .mp3. I'm waiting for a high-bitrate MP3 successor with full support for ID3 tagging, and by the time this format dominates the market, I want "MP3 Player" to be a dirty term.
