MDK is a seminal classic in 3D gaming that mixed shooters, platformers and even managed to bring in a little something new at the time: a sniper gun. That's right, this game was probably the game to popularize sniper rifles in shooters as before this no games I can think of really had one and after MDK you saw a lot of shooters starting to incorporate snipers. Coincidence? I think not! Definitely an underrated classic in so many ways! It also helps the graphics were extremely great at the time, offering a huge variety of styles and the music was equally amazing and diverse. Highly recommended!

MDK is Shiny's attempt at taking the shooting, platforming and signature humour of Earthworm Jim and transporting it into the 3rd dimension, and for the most part, it works. Praise especially has to be given to the level aesthetics that display every colour of the spectrum in creative and surprising ways. The controls aren't as tight as modern TPSs but once you've got used to them they rarely hinder the player. If felt odd that thought had clearly gone into designing the two sidekicks, yet they're barely explored, and for the most part are only shown in still images. The game's biggest flaw however has to be its length, with a barely 5 hour campaign and no replay value, MDK leaves the player thinking "is that it?".
