I tried to play an emulated version and...bleh. Good lord, don't buy the Sega CD version of Lunar: Silver Star. The voice clips don't match the cheap animation in the cutscenes. The interface looks tacky. The game's color palette is very limited. Unless someone is willing to dig up the original version for posterity, don't bother. Just get Silver Star Complete or the PSP version.

The epic scope of Lunar 1 is still amazing, by today's standards. The Playstation version showed off the true power of cutscenes in role-playing games. The massive animations in the second half of the game look just as impressive as it did when Lunar first came out.

If there were ever games that rode on the strength of the story it is the Lunar games. Battles are played out over the entire battle screen which takes into account distances characters and enemies. What makes these games great however is the story and characters. Despite using familiar tropes the execution is so undeniably charming they still hold up after all these years. Oh and the music is good too. Luna singing on the boat was one of the most jaw-dropping moments in gaming for me. It should be cheesy but it's so unexpected and sincere that it's just heartwarming. That's what these games do to you! XD
